5.1SE - Removal of old phone from Cali system

I have scoured this forum for how to remove an old phone from my 5.1 SE, but to no avail. We have three old phones listed, one of which we no longer own.

We have taken a taken a deposit on the old vehicle and we are handing it over at the weekend. We want to leave it clean of old phones for the new owner.

I think that I have found the relevant area in the menu, but cannot get past the “device is in use” hurdle in the picture.

Has anyone actually been successful at this?

Factory reset of the Media System?
Will delete all user information .

I did already try ‘factory reset’. I’m not exactly sure what it resets, but it didn’t wipe the memory of being connected to my three phones.

If I can’t remove them from the vehicle I guess I’m personally kept safe if I just remove the VW app from my phone.
