T6 Cali On Order
Hi everyone.

We're getting our new Cali tomorrow. Has anyone else opted for 7 seats? I'm just interested.
I've been looking at the forums for a while and only just joined. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions over the next few weeks/months.

Thanks.

We've got 7 seat beach too. Love it.
Had a 5 seater for a while. 7 seater makes an already brilliant vehicle even more brilliant!

Yes, we have a seven seater. It is a very versatile vehicle.

7 seater on order here too!

And me, we love the versatility that our 7 seat Beach gives us. One day it's the kid's football team bus, the next day it's picking up wardrobes from IKEA, the next day it's a holiday home somewhere gloriously serene. Truly the vehicle for all occasions.

The only downside to the two extra seats is the cost of buying two more seat covers, and also having somewhere to store them when not needed, but I can live with both of these as the benefits far outweigh them.

Well I'll say it.
That's a Lulu! Enjoy

7-seater all the way. There's plenty of space on the bench for our 3 kids but it's great when they have friends / grandparents. The spare seats also come into their own on the school run when everybody is a little tired and emotional and need a little more 'separation' for the sake of parental sanity! Also you get to cancel the gym membership because shifting the spares in and out of the van is all the workout you'll need!!!

I ordered 6 seats - took 6th seat out day one - now had it 1 year never put it back in, but i know its there if i need it. Brilliant vehicle

We own a beach ... just so we can have 7 seats as a family of 5 and use it as a work vehicle moving sports teams around - 7 is a must.

AND when our T5 was totaled when a coach bus hit us from behind ... we had the 2 seats out of the van (stored in our hallway). We ended up selling the 2 seats for more than what we paid for them as VW here doubles the price of accessories not bought at the time of the purchase.

AND in Spain your official paperwork needs to have 7 seats in the paperwork or it could mean a fine if pulled over by police with the 7 seats set up in van .... and one won't pass an inspection with the 7 seats in (you'd need to remove them) ... so technically/practically you'd need to change the paperwork to have 7 seats if you get them after purchase. A big headache here!

AND my sons love having the extra seats set in their bedrooms as they are comfy to sit in. :)

7 seats is a must. We have the middle ones facing backwards so all four children have their own seat with loads of space. Sometimes take seat 7 out for camping trips as the extra floor space makes setting up and getting in/out of downstairs bed much easier. Minor issue is that the 3 seat bench does not make a flat surface as a bed so you need a comfort mattress or a topper on it.

Hello, This feed and the knowledge from the replies might be able to help. I have a T6 3 seater Beach and I was thinking about the extra seats for when our bus isn't camping and need advice. Please forgive me if this is very obvious but can you fit another 3 seat ex-transporter 1+1+1 combination seat(s) in front the the slider seats to make 8 seats like a caravelle ?

Caravelle is 7-seat... It has another set of rails in the centre for a table. Caravelle seating is The 3-seat bench and two singles, all on the same runners as the Beach. The three seat bench seat is the same in Beach and Caravelle.
Caravelle can be bought with 4x swivel seats and no bench.

If the seats are fixed then it is a Shuttle.

The Beach/Caravelle seats have integrated seat belts; Shuttles have theirs attached to the pillars.
Many Shuttles are advertised as Caravelles falsely.

The rail system means there were no fixing points for the fixed position seats that you have suggested.

In theory a second sliding 3-seater bench could go in, but they are hefty, and it would not match the V5 seating numbers.

Look on the 'for sale' section on the forum and people sell the single seats that you can just pop in on the rails, making a very flexible 7-seater.

If I have understood you correctly and you mean a second three seater bench, then from memory the answer in theory, is yes but it would raise certain other major issues. Those being:

1. With the second bench seat in the fully forward position, access to the rear bench would be very difficult indeed. The only way you could gain access to the rear bench would be to tilt the upright back section of the front bench seat forward to allow very tight and limited access. Sitting here, writing this post, I cannot remember if that is actually possible on a T6. I haven't played with the rear bench recently. Does anyone know?

2. Rear seat passengers would find it very difficult, if not impossible, to get out in the event of an accident. The mechanism for tilting the front bench back section forward, (if it is indeed possible) is a strap located in the middle of the seat base where it joins the seat back. It would therefore not be easily accessible to rear seat passengers when the front bench seat head rests are in position. The rear bench passengers would be reliant on help from the driver or other passengers sitting in the forward seats. That just wouldn't be safe.

3. As you would be modifying the vehicle away from the designed specification you would almost certainly find it harder, if not impossible to get it insured.

4. With this modification and eight passengers with luggage etc, you may be taking the vehicle to above its maximum permissible gross vehicle weight. Not a good idea.

5. I doubt if it will have been crash tested in this configuration so you may be entering uncharted safety territory.

6. Whilst I have never tried it, I would imagine that moving the three seater bench in and out would be very difficult indeed and bl**dy heavy.

7. If the seats that you are suggesting are of the type used in the Transporter Shuttle then they won't fit. You can specify a VW Transporter Shuttle bus with two rear rows of three seats but these seats use a completely different fixing system to the rail system in the Beach so would not be transferrable. From memory I believe that the Shuttle seats are simply bolted to the floor and cannot be moved fore and aft. Also the front three seater bench in that case is usually split into a two seater fixed bench and a single seater tilt/fold seat to enable adequate access to the rear bench. I also believe this single seat is easily operated by the rear seat passengers.

So in essence, whist spouting all this from memory, (so I stand to be corrected), I believe that it is possible in theory but the sensible answer is definitely do NOT do it.

Thanks Stoneybroke and Borris. Great advice and information and all from memory ;). Its safe to say I will be placing a wanted post in the forum for a seat or two.

You're welcome.

Check your v5 on passenger numbers. I have the two-seater Beach, with one extra swivel for when we want five seats (lives in the garage!) But the V5 clearly says Seven seats, so I would have no issues changing the configuration.

Hello, I also have a 7 seat T6 Beach and I'm 99% sure that the Transporter 1+1+1 bench will not fit without serious modifications. A friend of mine has a T5 Kombi and the seat clips into a different type of bracket located in the floor.

As others have suggested, a T6 3 seat bench would fit but be very heavy to get in and out.

The back of the T6 bench does fold forward flat which would allow limited access to the 3rd row.

Would access be easier if the two bench seats were arranged to face one another?
