Adblue filling

AdBlue available on draught at the Esso station on the A405 near the Warner Bros studios.
Handy as just off the M1/M25 junction. Much easier than the caned stuff.

I used to go 'on draught' instead of cans.
Then since last week the pumps stopped after the first 30cc. In different stations. I first thought it was because I pushed it in too deep, so I tried with my funnel, giving it some air. But in vain. Not a drop came out afterward.
Anyone experienced this before as well? Do they trace you on CCTV, and try to get rid of our small vans at the truck lines? ;) Or do you have to get it in right from the first time and if not the system blocks?

Anyone reading this and wondering about AdBlue filling might want to look at another thread called "Sigh, another warning light...", as it is not obvious that this has content about ad-Blue filling:

It was an eye-opener for me - the risks and potential service costs involved in overfilling the tank and also the fact that commercial pumps may not cut-out in time and risk overfilling. It all sounds a bit of a minefield and nor as straight-forward as it might seem.

Could this be the reason.

Re: Refill Adblue containers at pump.

Adblue pumps have a magnetic switch in the nozzle activated by a radial magnet in the neck of the tank on the vehicle, the pump will not work without this magnet around the nozzle. If anybody has managed to fill a container then the switch on the nozzle has been de-activated.This is supposedly to prevent contamination of the adblue or putting adblue in the diesel.
Google adblue magnets and you can find suppliers, mine cost around £30.

Thx for this reply WG. But I did manage to get AdBlue from the pumps before. Or perhaps they installed these switches later on? It is true that at the station where I used to tank before the AdBlue pump is closed now...

Saw 10L adblue in Wilkinson yesterday for £10. Didn’t fancy carrying it around Chester city centre though! :D

The containers Adblue is supplied in are very good quality and I’ve been reluctant to throw them in the recycling. Anyone got any suggestions what to use them for?

Up to now I’ve put 15L in ours at 7k miles, and display says there is 5500 miles in the tank. There was 4500 miles in it on delivery.

The moral of the story for me was to check the amount of adblue required from the mfd and fill up within that range. I’m gobsmacked that it’s possible to overfill with adblue.

When I bought a while ago a 10l container I could only top up the tank with 7l. Later on, when running empty and the machine asking for min 5,5l with a maximum of 450km to go, I used the remaining 3l AdBlue. But my 'Maccina Capricciosa' kept its count-down running, for days....

I use them to fill up with diesel for my boat, for which soon I will have to go buy AdBlue containers, etc....It's called 'cyclic economy' :headbang
In some years I use the boat to store my toxic waste and sail with a container raft towards plastic oceans...

Ah, let these long-range e-vans come asap!

Did yiu turn the key in the ignition for 30s?

I read about that trick before here recently. No, I just drove on. Silly me...:Depressed
I better install a special Cali-routine: monthly charging check, 3/4 fuel service check, AdBlue limit check, ignition check,...
When I drive along all these construction guys in their T6-vans I wonder....

It's in the manual, turning the key resets the mileage for the adblue.

Don’t forget running the Parking Heater, monthly.

Another alternative to carrying a Portapotti? Nice wide neck :thumb and plenty of volume. The spout could be useful too. You could even make your own adyellow version of adblue in the morning by adding some boiled water.

I agree but I have a garage full of cr*p and reluctantly put it in the recycling (I couldn’t bring myself to bin the spout so kept it). I’ll have another though.

could take your skin off if you try and pee in the bottle.

It doesn’t say anywhere not to pee in the empty container!

You didn't read section 8

=====

8 . Exposure controls/personal protection

Skin and body

Personal protective equipment for the body should be selected based on the task being performed and the risks involved and should be approved by a specialist before handling this product.

When the risk of skin exposure is high (e.g. when cleaning up spillages or if there is a risk of splashing) then chemical resistant aprons and/or impervious chemical suits and boots will be required.

When you gotta go, you gotta go. At my age, I don’t have time to read to section 8! ;)

I just came across this in the workshop manual and it states that you need to use an adapter when filling from a pump to ensure correct fill level.
