Advice please

My point to any buyer is to make sure they know what warranty they are buying.

I spoke to a VW Dealer yesterday about a pre reg T6.1 cali regarding if the VW factory 5 year extension could be taken out on it.

He told me not to worry as the sell one (dealer warranty) that’s ‘exactly the same’. What a load of nonsense.
Educate us please what are the differences?

Apart from the 5 year extension costing more.

I’m referring to the dealers own warranties that are more like insurance policies with limits on claims.

My understanding has always been that dealers were on an incentive to sell their own dealer polices so they’d offer them over the factory warranty extension, which in my experience you have to specifically ask for.

If you’re referring to the All In One plan then I haven’t looked into much as it wasn’t around when we purchased new.

However one example is I’ve been told that all warranty claims under the all in one plan have to go to VW head office for approval. Whereas the factory warranty a decision can be made by the dealer directly, usually on the spot in my experience.

I’ve had great experiences with the factory warranty so if it’s an option I’d go with that personally, bargain in my experience.

As long as buyers know what they’re getting then people can make their own choice.

Be interested if you think any warranty, or the All in One plan is better than the factory warranty?

Talking about only VW warranties not 3rd party ones:

The 5 year warranty is great if bought when the van is new, If a vans more than 3 months old you can’t get the 3 year factory warranty extended to 5 years. You have to wait until the 3 years are up and at that point extend the warranty.

The latest wording from VWCV warranty document suggests a claim limit of £2500 on the extended warranty.

The all in has a claim limit of the market value of the van, major exclusions are what you would expect, batteries, seals, gas struts and normal wear & tear. It looks to be as good a warranty as you are going to get on a vehicle that age.

It is possible that the original owner took out the 3 Year Warranty Extension when he purchased the van (or within 3 months). The salesman may not be aware, so maybe ring the service department with the van registration number and ask them to check.

I would make the purchase conditional on the bellows not leaking - and if they do, ask the dealer to put in writing that they will swap for the 06S.

Our 03S bellows leaked along one seam on the front, our 04S bellows were way worse and leaked absolutely everywhere, however our 05S bellows seem fine so far. Not all examples of all bellows series leaked.
