Advice Please

Clearly a lot of views with different takes on the two scenarios, I've a 5.1 180 and we (me & OH) have often looked at upgrading, but in essence the insides of the California hasn't changed drastically over the models. Yes a door style may be different, a couple of more conveniences with lights or USBs etc but the bed and kitchen are in the same place and all the general features are there. Granted the engines have upped the euro compliance so that may be important to you.
The t5.1 140 was a sought after engine and saves £15k plus any wiggle room, so I'd get that one and budget £1k on accessories (they mount up) and have £14k for creating memories in the van. And it may depreciate slightly less?

T5.1 has good depreciation. We have sold our last two for more than purchase price…happy days!

Thanks everyone for all the advice. We decided on the T6 but were too late, it had sold! Very few for sale now so in process of buying a 2020 6.1 150 DSG Ocean for more than I wanted to spend!

Congratulations, the T6.1 is great!

If you haven’t already check out the VW all in one plan, services & warranty at a reasonable cost

I’m sure you’ll love it, T6 or T6.1 both great choices.
Hopefully you’ll post some pix of your van, enjoy the adventures.

Do you work at Bletchley Park?

I have just driven 66 miles one way and then returned, rough 70% motorway and some of that with 50mph restriction, quite a lot driven at 70mph. not much town driving though. Outward I got 36mpg return 33mpg 204 4mo 2022 T6.1 Cali ocean.
I think these vans are susceptible to wind direction, something that I had not really noticed with the many estate cars I have owned previously, this isn’t very surprising as they probably aren’t very aerodynamic, bit of a shock really as I could better this in a Golf R estate most of the time unless I was booting it, town driving is terrible mpg figures for both Van and Golf.
My 2022 4motion 2022 Cali Ocean returns returns similar.. varies but generally low thirties even on a long run. Mind you didn’t particularly buy it for its fuel economy!

Interestingly I’ve had 41.6 mpg on a 200 mile trip. Same spec
Same spec here and regularly expect high 30s mpg ...... but beware towing when using ACC which, with a caravan behind, causes it to plummet to mid 20s ( though knock off the ACC and achieve high 20s)
