Hi, I’m Ryan Walker, a VW California owner and enthusiast (of course!) and new to the forum.
I wanted to introduce myself because I’m also the MD of Rosmia. You might recognise our name, if you’re interested in air suspension for your Cali, because we are accredited dealers for VB Air Suspension and the UK’s only California air suspension specialist.

I fitted it to my Cali in 2011 so if you have any questions about air suspension for yours let me know.
I’m planning on posting a topic on air suspension every month or so and sharing useful tips.

VB produce a highly reliable system which is factory-approved by VW which, as well as the comfort and handling benefits, also has an Auto Level function for when you park up.

Please feel free to check out our website http://www.rosmia.co.uk.

I look forward to hearing from you and, if you have any questions, let me have them.

Ryan.

Hi Ryan welcome :thumb

Welcome Ryan!

We have the VB air suspension under our Cali, but we are not based in the UK but in The Netherlands.

hi Ryan, I'm going to get the VB air suspension fitted. I live in the south of France and was thinking of driving to Switzerland to get the work done. I could get it done whilst in the UK. Be good to get in touch and ask more, thanks!

Hi
If I buy this kit for my VW T6.1 California , what happens if I have to change a wheel, can I lift it with the jack ?
Will the kit be damage if the car is on a lift ?
I remember my cayennes suspension got damaged after it was on a lift and was told the guy who did it, didn’t “ lock” the suspension before lifting the car.......what should I be aware of ?
Cheers

As a ballpark figure, what is the approximate cost of fitting an air suspension system please?

After looking into it and finding it costs north of five grand I decided to go for the DCC which has a comfort setting (and Sport for windey roads). No lowering or self-levelling but ‘saves’ four bags so I’ll see...

You’ll not be disappointed with the DCC, it totally transforms the drive. I leave it in Sport mode for normal driving around, as I find the improved handling well worth the slightly more bumpy ride, then use comfort for when there are fewer corners (i.e. cruising and motorway). But you lose forever the chance to fit air suspension - and as you say this means no self levelling or low barrier ducking capability. Horses for courses.

You can't lift a wheel. suspension weight would need a vacuum to lift it.

VB has a Service mode to disable. Others, such as Bilstein Air need the main fuse taking out or ignition off when jacking. All depends on Control System fitted.

You can however set the suspension to the raised position prior to any jacking action.

I have a California Ocean (4 Motion) with DCC but I'd really like to have air suspension for ground clearance off road and being able to drop down to get into car parks (I want to put off road tyres on). Can anyone recommend an alternative (good quality) system to VB that can go on a DCC fitted California?

thanks!

Don't think such a system exists due to high cost of a DCC struts and rear dampers on top of the air bits would be in the region of £8>10K.

damn, that's not what I wanted to hear!

Front strut only needs change on second thoughts.
If you price a DCC strut you will get the cost issue.

Robert may have done that for you

I nearly went down this route a few years back but the stipulation of annual maintainence did it for me. If I didnt have it undertaken then no warranty. Okay... Bye!

No. Though there is a service mode on the control handset. Select that before you lift the vehicle. If you forget and remember is after jacking it up, just press the service button.

My van just had its MOT and they had the van up on the lift. Just used the service mode and all is well. Only let people who understand the van, handle it. Get a good service centre.

Do you mean an annual maintenance requirement for the VP a system? I ask as I am intending to get this but would worry about having to take it in for an annual VB service!

Annual maintenance is no more a requirement. Speak to Ryan at Rosmia. The only check I do at home is to lift the van and clean the bellows with water and check for general appearance to see any issues.

That's what they told me in 2017. Only a few hours not forgetting the fact I have drive over there, hang around and drive back (thus an whole day). My V8 Disco with air - nowt although I have changed the front structs and rebuilt both air valve blocks but then again it is 15years old.

Good to note. It was onerous.
