I have the unit pictured below in my T6 California. The phone works fine, making and receiving calls. Android auto only works when connected by cable - which has a habit of falling out at inconvenient times. Is there a way to get this to also work on Bluetooth?

Had this same issue on our previous van, a T6, and never cracked it.
Although we now have a 6.1 I’d still be interested to know if it can be done.
Fingers crossed somebody has a solution for you.

Thanks Kevin, I was hoping for a cheaper solution ;-)

Apple CarPlay is a WiFi technology not a Bluetooth one. Wireless systems make contact, shake hands, through Bluetooth and then agree to go to WiFi for the data transfer, it's much faster and has a greater bandwidth.

Android Auto most likely to works along the same lines.

Your head unit doesn't have a WiFi module in, so your goto option is a hard wired connection. The other option involves swapping out the head unit for something more modern.

Thats my understanding of things.

There are wireless Android Auto/Apple Car Play USB dongles advertised that are designed to use in vehicles.

I have no idea if one would work with your unit. But as it has a USB and Android Auto works when you connect your phone by USB, it might be worth a punt buying one.

Certainly worth a try at that price, thank you.

Simple Answer: NO

Wonderful, received the device that lohr500 suggested above plugged it into the USB, paired it and it worked immediately! This means I can Bluetooth Android Auto and charge the phone separately and if the charge lead falls out we don't get lost.
PS It says it also works for Carplay but I cannot vouch for that.

Excellent news. From the description I was reasonably confident it would work.
