Now a legal requirement for over 3500kg (GC 680) in France to tell cyclists I may not see them and turn in ‍:headbang:headbang

**update: reading the small print of the act, if your ‘vehicle’ has a direct vision system or glass doors then you can place as close as possible to the 0.1m rule from the front but no more than 3m. I read this as ‘if you have visibility’ you have more flexibility. ‍

Yeah I can see how you could find that less aesthetically pleasing.

Cheaper than a two tone paint job!
I understand anything over 3500kg needs them, one on each front wing less than 1m from the front & 1 on the rear panel . Add in the GB sticker & striped board for a bike rack & there won't be a lot of van left on display.

“INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

ARTICLE 2
Motor vehicles and towed vehicles must be marked on the rear of the vehicle, to the right of the longitudinal median plane and at a height of between 0.90 and 1.50 meters from the ground and,
- For motor vehicles: signage in the first front meter of the vehicle, excluding glazed surfaces, on the left and right, and at a height between 0.90 and 1.50 meters from the ground.

I (did) cycle a lot in London as part of my commute. It makes me cringe when I see cyclists squeezing up the inside of an HGV with rear steer wheels combined with no escape route (made worse by railings on side of the road). If you can’t get in front of the vehicle and get eye contact with the driver, you must assume that they haven’t seen you no matter how big their mirrors.

The sticker will do nothing to stop cyclists from taking a risk. I have even seen them arguing with drivers / punching the vehicle when the driver has done nothing wrong.

My husband cycles for his commute to London, pre-lockdown that is. He gets so frustrated with cyclists who take these unnecessary risks and I think you’re right, the stickers won’t stop them doing it.

Agreed, the stickers do nothing. A cyclist who cannot see the danger of positioning themselves aside a left-turning lorry is not going to notice a sticker even if it was flashing neon letters.

I was a daily cycle commuter in London for 12 years during which time a number of cyclists died in such accidents. Something like 8 to 15 every year, disproportionately women. Poor visibility from the driver's seat on large vehicles, bad road design (street furniture), lack of eduction on both sides, all contribute.

You won't see the sticker before you decide to pass it either...

I’m a huge fan of cycling and cycle 1000’s of miles a year. I too cringe when I see the antics of many cyclists. I Also get the need to highlight risks and understand the thinking behind the decision, but..... this van is no bigger than one’s that don’t require it and to be frank visibility is no better/worse than a Range Rover with a suit jacket hanging up in the back. Just not thought through. Anyway, it’s magnetic and looks like I won’t need it until next year at this rate....
