What's the better, more reliable engine between the 150 & 204 (4M) ?

Has here been any issues to date with either of these engines

The base engines are very good, it's the bolt-on emissions stuff that causes the issues and that has more to do with how and how often you drive it.
That’s an interesting comment @Loz. Can I ask - presumably you mean a lot of short journeys are bad? I have been conscious that recently mine has has a lot of school and shop runs and not much else. I guess like any modern engine, they need a proper run once a week or so to get the cat fully up to temperature?

It's more to do with failed DPF regenerations during short journeys because if they happen a lot, this can then cause soot build up and a need for dealer induced regeneration via the computer.

Purchase of a Carista OBD dongle and a subscription allows you to force a DPF regeneration as and when you want to avoiding a trip to a Dealership, and a lot cheaper.

No diesel engine emission system likes short runs.

Might be worth getting a Carista as you can start a Regen process where the instructions are to then go for a run at 2000>2500rpm for approx 15 mins to clear the system. Manual gear use if DSG.

Only engine related problem to date on my 204 is a so called Moo Valve. Was intermittent and couldn't get it do it when trying to diagnose. Replaced the one that controls the EGR and seems OK so far. £42 cost.

I think I'll get one of these

Sorry for the double post!

WelshGas, how often do you force a DPF regeneration ?

Mines a daily driver. Normally 20,000 miles/yr, but only 10,000 during Covid unfortunately. So have no need to force DPF regenerations. Also, it’s a Euro 5.

Slight off topic but, does Carisa allow full access to ABS related faults? I have a similar thing that doesn’t. My MOT guy tells me ABS faults have another level of protection from “cheaper” diagnostic kit.

I gather some have used Carista to isolate faulty ABS sensors, but might be model dependant.
VCDS does.

Carista shows the level of soot in the DPF and you can decide if you wish to do a regen or not.

Shows as a gram number but I haven't found what is 'normal' figure as yet.
When I had my Pendle update the guy talked in a % figure for soot not gram. 25% was shut down figure he said.

Hopefully someone on here can enlighten me on this.
