Could be expensive for you, but then I’m afraid that is as it should be. The DPF is there for a reason.

The Diesel Particulate Filter is there for an important reason. Capping it off or removing it is at the very least both irresponsible and antisocial.

When I had my Alfa a lot of owners did that on their cars to get more performance and MPG, many tried to persuade me to too. However 210bhp was enough for me, I resisted. I'm sure they will all be spending money to get them replaced again soon. This change has been coming for a while now, I guess it's finally here.

It is true the DPF does impact economy and performance but it also massively reduces the amount of black soot being released into the air. I guess the fact so many have may not helped with diesel vehicle's stigma but I also guess lots of garages will make a mint out of replacing them.

It has been an MOT fail for some time (from February 2014), if the DPF is found to have been removed.

Only removed I believe. Now it has to be present and untouched, or proof of replacement as per original specification.

What’s the issue with DPF...???

6 years, 55000 miles and I’ve never had an issue with it. Yes I’m sure it will need replacing at some point for many hundreds of pounds. But that’s just a general maintenance thing.
Reading between the lines, is it people who are trying to cut ownership/maintenance costs that have them removed...???

Probably yes but they also restrict the gas flow through the exhaust so removing it can also improve mpg/performance.

Reading the various legal arguments one thing is apparent that it is illegal to remove or modify the DPF and would invalidate your insurance. If the powers that be have made rules requiring the reduction in particulates, I would have grave concerns about the removal. If taken to court they could even confiscate the vehicle in todays crazy world. Mechanics are the last to ask but DVSA would give a reliable answer.
