Apple car play…

It is weird. When the CarPlay is kicked off the system the screen goes blank, all driver assist systems are turned off, including cruise control. After a few seconds the screen comes back on and if I use the talk button to ask a question it talks to me in German. It is quite funny in a way. But all that was before I connected via cable. If it happens again with the cable connected I guess it is a warranty fix.
From what the lead tech at the Sheffield van centre told me, your symptoms are a known issue with VW. Your local dealer should be able to assist.

I will try and disconnect it in the Bluetooth menu.
My wife had her Bluetooth off on her phone, and the Apple play system was toggled onto my phone.
But her call was still playing the trough the system, very strange.
I had exactly this the other week.

My wife had never set up over Bluetooth/paired her phone. She was using the USB to charge.

We do this all the time in my main car - I am connected via Bluetooth but also to WiFi and charging via cable.

She charges her phone while we drive and zero issues.

The VW connectivity is just a bit 2008.

I would imagine that happened because the VW system took over the phone connectivity, just as it would if you didn’t have Car Play

Yes, but this doesn’t happen in our other car I use CarPlay in. I connect to it and she uses another USB port to charge.

It never cross pollinates our phone services as it were.

Seems a uniquely VW infotainment quirk. And VW aren’t the leaders in this space, much more laggards.

Not going to lie, this Apple CarPlay (in a VW) is doing my nut in!
Never found anything so complicated in my life :headbang

I have got the Wife's phone to connect perfectly (I'm sure that was more luck than judgement) but I cannot for the life of me get mine connected! I even kicked her out the car at Tesco and told her to shop slowly just in case hers was interfering with my set up.

Bizarre thing is, when she's connected (wirelessly) her Bluetooth is OFF, and her WiFi isn't connected to anything - so how the hell is the car talking to her phone?
I can connect my phone to the car as a "Phone" but its refusing to connect Apple CarPlay.

Have I missed a step?
I have read pretty much every single thread going in the Club Forums and haven't found an answer, but this thread seems to be the closest thing in the (bluetooth/wifi) issues I'm facing.

Any pointers? Clues? Large Hammers?

The iPhone talks to the car via WiFi, however a Bluetooth connection is used in order to make the introductions. Cabled CarPlay obviously doesn’t use wireless.

You should be able to go to Settings > General > CarPlay for set up instructions on your iPhone.

It is also possible to turn on/off CarPlay capability at that point. This stops the VW from finding your iPhone for CarPlay, but not for Bluetooth.

That "might" be where I have gone wrong then.... I need to connect WiFi to the VW as well - which I believe is what you do when you set up the We Connect Plus bit...
Will give it another try!!

In Settings > General > CarPlay it says MY VW 5332 is connected - thats the annoying bit! It "thinks" its connected.. but its not!

My Discovery system in the MAN TGE worked fine when I first got it back in May last year, but is proving increasingly problematic. Sometimes it just drops and resets randomly - no more than a few times a year, but the more annoying thing is the wireless integration.

It connects as a Hotspot instead of bluetooth. This then makes it appear like there's no data getting to the system. Google Maps fails to show maps, just directions and Spotify gets very clunky. The only solution seems to be disabling the WiFi function on my iPhone and connecting using the cable. It's becoming a bit of a PIA, particularly when driving solo and not having a crewmate to sort it out for me if I forget to set it up as described above.

I’m not too sure that connecting to the cars WiFi will help very much. That part is designed to happen within the connection protocol.

I feel your pain. There’s only so many times you can force both bits of tech to forget the iPhone, forget the vw, switch everything off and on and then find it still doesn’t work.

This time next week it will just work, you’ll never know why it changed its mind!!!!

Best of luck.

This is exactly what I find.

Glad it’s not me not knowing how to set it up. Works fine in my car. VW infotainment is pretty garbage!

Yeah works fine in our Discovery 5, only glitch is we find sometimes Google maps needs starting from our phones on that system. But overall far more stable the the VW unit.

Does anyone else think this system is awful?
My wife has turned off her Bluetooth on her phone but it still rings via the Apple at play system.
Anyone else noticed this?
And when I plug my Phone into the usb-c my phone sat nav doesn’t show up on screen.
It’s so complicated….
CarPlay is the best satnav/entertainment cara and vans can offer today … manufacturers’ systems they do are awful IMO

It's so far ahead of any native system - even the much touted BMW one. I can shout at Siri to do my bidding and it all works seamlessly.
