Hi Everyone

We are considering adding the Dynaudio package to our T6 Ocean order as we really love our music, decent bass and have mostly bought all of our previous cars with the upgraded audio where it's been available.

We're not sure in the Cali though as it's a lot of money on a vehicle which is already way in excess of what we'd usually spend, so need to be sure we'd use it enough.

What is the sound like at normal listening levels compared to the standard system? We tend to listen to loud music when we are in the car individually on our own, but not together. What we like out of the premium systems we've had before is the added clarity of sound and low volume coupled with proper decent bass creating a real physical element to the music, even when not playing it really loud.

Also - can you use the radio when the Cali is parked up in 'camping mode', i.e. Just for music when you're in for the evening and having dinner etc? If you're off grid how much does it drain the battery and if you're hooked up, presumably it can cope fine as the batteries are charging?

If there is a silly 30 min cut off thing, can it be overridden or does it automatically not do that when on hookup?

Just want to make sure we'll get the most usage out of it.

Cheers

Been discussed before so a quick summary as I see it.

Enthusiasts have done there own upgrade or gone to a specialist as VW upgrade is expensive.

Yes it does drain the battery which is why there is a cut off.

Evidently there is a way to wire it into the leisure batteries but not that easy.

So two issues. First if I wanted an improvement I would go to an after market specialist.

I would not mess with the power options as it is to much hassle and in any case not sure how popular you would be on a site.

For music and sound from iPad etc I've gone for a good quality Bluetooth speaker of which there are many,

One of the things I was most disappointed with in my van was the sound, it was a really expensive option at the time and I just assumed it would be good sound, I wish I had not paid the extra money and just had an aftermarket set up Installed. My Audi has a Bose set up and when I jump from the van to the Audi it just heightens my disappointment with the over priced VW system. If you like good sound across all levels then spend some time investigating your options, it will be worth it.

Sounds good.

We managed to listen to a Cali Ocean yesterday with Dynaudio and we were pretty dissapointed to be honest. We were really hoping for great things with a, the cost and b, the potential van interior space to play with.

Nope! Sounded a bit flat, too front heavy and very lacking in bass for a premium system. No amount of playing with the settings seemed to help, either. We also tried a combination of different input media to make sure it wasn't the old DAB quality problem masking a decent sound.

Aftermarket the way to go I think...

It's also an extra £1k (you can buy a lot of aftermarket gear for that) and you lose the storage in the centre of the dash).

Btw, the radio switches off after 30 mins when camping. Runs from vehicle battery so not normally wise to use extensively (unless on hook up). Many owners seem to use Bluetooth speakers when camping (stream audio from phone, tablet etc)
