Following on from my previous thread, concerning my stolen awning.
I am considering switching insurance companies from Comfort, which uses Aviva. Aviva are insisting I fit a tracker and Comfort are going to increase my premium from £486 - £665. I have 8yrs no-claims at present.

So the question is should I stick with Comfort or switch, if so what insurance company do you recommend?

Thank you

Im just wondering what difference a Tracker will make if someone nicks your awning? Surely a Tracker is fitted inside the van and not inside the awning. Or is it they think you are now a target.. Really just an excuse to increase the premium..

You could try Caravan & Motorhome. I had a claim for a £17500 caravan, some years ago that was a right off, hit by a coach on the motorway some years ago. Replaced with the new year model and an apology that it took so long, 5 weeks, but they had to wait for it to be built. Renewal premium went up by £10.
I'm still with them for the California, paying £403 for upto 20k miles/year.

We are with Justkampers insurance who use various brokers. Costs us approx £300 basis 10,000 miles a year, incl uk/euro breakdown cover, camping gear etc, 8years NCB & Protected NCB ; Had to claim due to panel damage (scraped a gatepost), Claim was handled very quickly. This year premium only increased by £50 so stuck with them.

Yes, they say that the van could now be stolen, which I agree is a poor excuse to increase the premium. The van was not tampered with, so if they were going to steal the van, they would have done it and removed the awning in a safer place.

Insurance is a minefield, we are with Aviva they never asked us to fit a tracker.

That’s a pathetic excuse, any of our vans could be stolen.

You could try camping and caravan club I currently pay £300.00 that's for 5000 mile a year. You might have to become a member but pretty sure they will give you a quote first

I don't know if our postcodes up North hurt us. When comparing with others I always pay more with a couple of small dodgy postcode areas close to me. Also not having access to another vehicle adds an added layer of complication (I mean expense!), as does needing some business use... And then I'm left hand drive....

The bargain price of Cali insurance starts from the assumption they are holiday / leisure vehicles. Much obvious deviation from that starts limiting your options.

Interesting thread, thanks for all the info. We pick up our first camper - 2012 Cali SE, in a couple of weeks and so have started to look at insurance. As a 3rd vehicle with no NCB on it, our's is coming out at around £250 with Admiral. It does seem that contents is limited to £150 or something small. However my take on it is that anything standard to the vehicle will be covered in the event of a motoring accident or fire or theft. And that's the bulk of the motor's expense. My home insurance covers my "valuable" items away from home. Anything else like an awning will not be covered. I think I can accept that for a reduced premium.

We are with Admiral and pay £175.. but the price varies so much on your age and mileage you will do..We have a Mini Cooper insured with them and worth about A fifth of the van and that is £200..

Can anyone advise me whether I need to have car insurance or van insurance for a 2018 T6? And which modifications do I need to declare? Picking up my T6 tomorrow but realised it's not that straighforward!! I was just about to confirm with Admiral my car insurance quote and realised maybe I should add the awning?? But they told me it had to be van insurance if I wanted the awning added as a modification??!! Help??!

Use a proper specialist insurer for a Cali. An awning is not standard equipment on a 2018 Cali. Comfort or Safeguard will offer you the right policy for the vehicle.

Can recommend below.

I've done well with Just Kampers. They are a bit of an outside shot and lots of 'standard' things are extra, but for my LHD / no other vehicle / business use / not great postcode, they were tops.
If you've more attractive statistics, comfort / safeguard / one of the motorhome clubs might be a better bet.

I went with Comfort insurance. Forgot to ask for the club discount, but added it to my next year reminder, so hopefully will not forget it next year

I don't get my Cali until December at the earliest and checking out insurance. Looked at Just Kampers, they have a vehicle value limit which pretty much rules out most new Cali's. Got a quote from my current car insurer which is pretty good, but it is a car policy. Still looking about, but quite confusing. Will now look at Comfort and CCC.
