The forum shop usefully sells spares (albeit at rather expensive, genuine VW prices) and there are two different versions to choose from.
The later version of the clip for 2011+ (2012MY) vehicles is more substantial than the earlier one and the new design has an increased 'stand-off' from the drawer sides that enables drawer-side mat, carpet, etc. to be fitted without affecting secure retention of the winder handle - which is why I purchased a set.
Easy enough to retrofit to earlier models - drawer unit just lifts out after undoing two small screws from inside the drawer bottom; remove plastic drawer trim (a self-tapping screw helps extract the trim clips); simply pull out the old winder handle retaining clips and use a step-drill to increase the existing holes until just big enough to accept the compressed, new clips (12mm hole); add a short horizontal notch to each hole at 3 & 9 o'clock positions, using a needle file/small drill, to fully accept the new clip (that also features an anti-spin feature that the old ones did not).
