Bergen to Bodo

Yes, The Laerdel Tunnel on the E16. Only tunnel you can stop in. Non-Toll.
We might be able to go that way from Oslo to Bergen.
Have you registered to pay the Norwegian Tolls?
No, I see little advantage in registering.

Why register my own foreign car?
Registering for an EPC account will normally reduce the time from your journey(s) to you receiving your invoice. Furthermore, you will have full control over where the invoices is sent, as well as accessing your invoices, checking due dates, viewing images, registering for e-mail delivery and making payment. You may at any time notify EPC about changes or cancel the registration.

There are advantages, invoice by email, otherwise it's by post, also as you register the vehicle and type/size if you are mistakenly charged as a van/lorry this is automatically corrected on your invoice. If doing it by post they just get your address from DVLA not vehicle type. Big differences between cars and vans/lorries tolls. A friend got charged as a lorry a few times and found the appeals process by post so long winded he accepted the hit in the end. Your choice.

We drove thru the Laeredal tunnel just seems go on forever until a roundabout suddenly appaers halfway .....

I never registred for tollways , payed the ones we needed at the gates and never got a bill for driving the parts registred by camera survielance...

Proposed route over 15 days, overnight stops and rest days to be decided en route.

Are we missing anything special?

From Stryn to Molde, to could take a slightly more eastern route.... Meaning you can see Geiranger Fjord, and drive over the Trollstigen Pass. The Flåm Line is also in that area, this tourist train, it's a bit "touristy" but is is also spectacular, and a good morning or afternoon activity.

Apparently there is only 1 Manual Toll left in Norway, the Atlantic Tunnel.all the rest are Camera operated and they now actively pursue all foreign registered vehicles with the co-operation of the EU member states and others.

**Correction** the Flåm Line is further South, but it's worth a google anyway, there's also a good Viking museum/exhibition at Gudvangen (near Flam.)

@WelshGas , we did parts where we needed to put coins in a automatic barrier...it was not a motorway but sort of a mountain pass.

The old road that the Laerdal tunnel replaced is a really good route if you can find it. I don't see the fun in driving through tunnels especially when they are that long. Why go down a hole when you can see the glorious landscape above it.

Apparently, whereas Tolls in different areas were managed locally, they are under 1 system now and all but 1 are automated and all collected by a central organisation. Collection of Tolls for Foreign Vehicles has recently been contracted to a Private Company.

Why not?
Plenty of scenery in Norway but only one Laerdal Tunnel.:thumb

We we went to Norway , thesame year you went last time..;) it was a company who was located in Londen who took care of the bills to foreing drivers....we never got a bill.

Agree on the alternative routes , but we had to return two times on a socalled beautifull road , as it was closed due to snow ....in june ...and by the looks of Pauls pictures from the last days weather is not all that good.
The tunnel is quite amazing to drive thru anyway.

Apparently things changed regarding Foreign Visitors Toll collection on 1st November 2015, because they were writing off so many Foreign Vehicle Tolls. Millions of € s. You were fortunate.

Its easy to find the alternative to the laerdaltunnel. Its road 243 betwen Laerdal and Aurland.

I've been playing with routes from Oslo to Bergen.

Here is one possible route taking in the tunnel, mountain pass and Flam.

Both look great! The view down the valley, towards Gudvangen is Epic. It's a very special place IMO.

We took the tourist train, from Flam to Myrdal, then cycled back down to Flam. The tourist train, was packed full of "herded" Chinese/Indian tourists..... But once out at the top, take time to explore a bit, by walking some of the Rallarvegen route.

The road-ferry from Hellesylt, brings you into Geiranger..... This is often referred to as the best Fjord ferry route in Norway. From Geiranger, the drive North, over the Trollstigen is then great also. Stay on Troll watch tho!

OK - that looks really great. The idea of cycling 16 Km down a mountain pass on a Brompton towing two boys in a trailer with two border collies on their mandatory leads (1 April to 20 August) has a rather odd appeal.

I expect Mrs Amarillo will veto any plan I have for such an adventure, but she may let me cycle the route solo while she returns with the boys and dogs by train.

You can rent mtbs to use from the top of the railway and the return at the bottom station. Its not very far to walk either.
