"Bike Porn"-your rides and how/where you use them

Has anyone found the thread/post about bracket rack? I can't!
This one perhaps? https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/thread...-roofline-with-t6-bikerack.18035/#post-206731

I've done it too: got a Thule Wanderway, installed a third rail salvaged from an old roof rack, got a third arm, and now holds two bikes without front wheels, two front wheels on the third rail, and if I remove the seat posts they are below the Cali's roof line (sorry, never took pics). I never carry more than two bikes, so this setup is perfect for me

Thanks, thats wonderful.

Maybe if there were a few more police on the beat they would catch the cyclist flouting the highway code as it already applies to cyclists (I have seen the odd police presence in London pulling over cyclist to jumping lights, etc). Having a license plate would only allow them to automate fining process via cameras.

I got to be honest London is terrible for cyclists riding red lights and I hold my head in shame, especially when there are pedestrians/vehicles crossing.

Obviously speed is a little difficult to monitor on a bicycle as there is no legal requirement for a speedo, but let's be honest unless your going downhill, doing much more then 20mph is quite an achievement!

On the insurance front, it makes sense to have it even if not mandatory. Nothing stopping someone seeking damages for an accident even if you don't have insurance. Only really issue there is the cyclist might not have the money to pay without the backing of insurance.

As normal the minority and taring the majority of sensible cyclist in a bad light.

Now don't get be started on e-scooters!

Speeding cyclists is becoming a big problem now with all these e-bikes, especially the deliveroo types. A little tweaking gets you well over 30mph, even private e-scooters are very rapid and dangerous.
It really frustrates me seeing cyclist jumping red lights, it's like the law doesn't apply to them. Unfortunately becoming common practise.

It won’t happen for the same reason that the Swiss abandoned their compulsory registration and insurance scheme.

It is posturing by Grant Shapps ahead of a major cabinet reshuffle under a new Tory leader.

There needs to be a major review over the use of e-bikes, e-scooters and mobility scooters, but human powered vehicles such as bicycles, scooters and go-karts won’t be affected.

Are you aware that speed limits do not apply to cyclists (except in the Royal Parks and some dockyards).

From a cyclist’s perspective, it is perfectly lawful to dismount and walk the bike through red lights. So if it is safe to do so pushing a bike, why go to the bother of dismounting?

I’m not saying it’s the right thing for a cyclist to do, just looking at it through different eyes.

Tedious and unworthy of discussion and little to do with this forum or the OP.
WOW! Get out of the wrong side of the bed did we?

this is seriously off topic - could a new thread be started which I can then ignore please.

So how many people take part in Cycle Endurance Events?
I'm too old for it now but my 44 Yr old son has just completed the London-Edinburgh-London
Event in 4 days and 13 hrs, averaging 300 + Km per day.

Long distance unsupported touring or bikepacking is my thing.

I’m planning next year’s two/three week break with the boys.

Nancy to Koblenz along the Moselle/Mosel. Koblenz to Strasbourg along the Rhein/Rhin. Strasbourg to Nancy along the Marne-Rhin canal.

851km, but only 1153m ascent.

Kudos to your son. LEL in four days 13 hrs is a fine achievement.

@WelshGas , what is your son's name? reason I ask, I was supporting the ride over the 5 days at their Brampton Control and got a chance to meet many riders and taking care of their many needs. I plan to participate in the next one in 3 years. Lot of practice to put in.

It is a great event and tests you to the max. Waiting for people to recover and update their blogs. There will be many great stories.

... and as always, the Cali made a great base station.

Finally re-assembled the used bike rack I bought from the forum after stripping it and having it anodised. Had also bought a front fork mount as discussed on the forum to keep the height below the roof. All I need to do when I use it is remove the saddle and post.
It’s just narrower than the width of the van but doesn’t look so in the photo

@M88GAV This looks excellent — please can you advise me where I could buy the fork mount ? I looked through forum but could only see instructions on how to make one myself. Thanks

Does that just slot into the rack? Or is some extra work needed? Thanks

This is the previous post where I got the idea from.

I didn’t use an IKEA chopping board as I already had an old plastic one that I hung on to for this purpose. It was slightly thicker than the gap in the track so I had to chamfer the edges with a rasp
