So the time has come for our 2 year service on the Cali Ocean 6.1 as the dash is saying we need an oil service, so I booked it in with the Birmingham Van Centre and was told that it would need a 2 year service at £406. I proudly announced that I was a member here so would I get the 10% off and was told NO it's already discounted to that figure....is this correct and what are people paying for their 2 year services ??

Seems expensive, i would ring another VW van centre for a quote. Are they including anything else like brake fluid change?
Or use vw website for a quote

Are you 100% sure that you don't have any sort of service plan in place? I can't remember a time when VW were not offering something as an incentive with new Californias even if it was only the 2 services for £99 offer which you would have been mad not to have taken.

Use the online servicing link posted above and it will tell you if there is an active service plan on the vehicle.

Hi all

Many thanks for the posts/replys. Unfortunately I am not the first owner so I never had the option to buy any additional warranty or service plans. However checking the link I found this, so why are the Birmingham Van centre not informing me of it ?? as surely they know I have it on the vehicle.....I assume I just let them know when I take it in ??

Question is how do I find out what the service plan is ???

If you have any VW Finance on the vehicle it always used to show what service plans & warranty were still applicable if you log into your account. Other than that just tell them at the garage you've booked it in before you arrive & casually ask how many more services you have left?

I have used Birmingham Van Centre for three services, but won’t be using them again! At my last service, earlier this month, I also paid £406 for the Inspection Service, but they tried to tell me that I needed further work done to the tune of £2600!! I declined and took to my local VW specialist for a second opinion, they assured me that the brake calipers, auxiliary belt and brake discs were all fine! The only thing VW were correct about was two split suspension bushes, for which they wanted £800! Instead I paid the specialist £1000 for ALL the suspension bushes to be replaced with Powerflex poly bushes. Just warning you not to take VW’s advice at face value!

So a quick update, I have dropped the van off and was again told that I would have to pay £406 as there was no service plan on the van !!. in the end a call was made to VW and the issue was that the original registration was entered as a letter O not a number 0. I do have a plan until Jan 2025 so all good, just need to see how the van comes back now ready for our trip to France

I’m afraid that advice holds good for most dealer workshops, whatever the brand. Gone is the time when the mechanic / service manager gives you an honest assessment. They seem to want to renew stuff way too early.

@mattpartridge , can I have the name of the company that did this please. Looking to renew the bushes on my van as well. Did they also do a wheel alignment after?

I had my 2022 coast serviced for the first time at Birmingham van center in April this year. It was just over £200, so no idea why yours is over £400.

So the van is back and I still have cash in the bank LOL, it would appear that the work done was
1,Full Service
2,Oil Change
3, Oil filter
4, Pollen filter
5, New Sump plug
6,Fuel Filter Replacement
Next service due in 2 years or 20,000 miles no other work required

Depends which Service you have. Minor or Major.

Does anyone have any experience of Listers pf Coventry for servicing . Not sure about going to Birmingham anymore.
