I got my Cali Ocean last April and it's been faultless so far. I'm at just over 9000 miles and a warning for an Oil Change Service due at 10,000 miles has appeared. I was under the impression that it was a 2 year service interval, so I'm a bit surprised. Is this a "feature" of the later 6.1's? It is a "daily driver" (although I don't drive it daily :) ) but it is used primarily for longer trips - so I was wondering if any other owners from the same time period/mileage are seeing similar?

Wasn't expecting an Oil change before I top up the AdBlue :)

At 9k miles you're way overdue an oil change. I would do the first one by 5k then every 5-7k depending on the driving. Its cheap insurance to maintain the motor in tiptop condition.

I am sure @GrumpyGranddad reported similar experience. My service data says different for oil change miles and service miles but still 500+ days for both. So definitely on 2 year intervals. Van has done 2461 miles. Currently says service in 22500 miles or 561 days. But oil change in 6900 miles or 561 days.
More than happy to have the early oil change. I bought 4 services with the van. Happy to use the first interval service around 9.5k for the first oil swap.

I can’t understand why VW state servicing every 2 years on long life oil when really what they mean is they want you in every year to get your van serviced. They really should get their act together and tell owners exactly what they expect you to do. The words “ Long Life oil” should mean something.

@Swello doing mainly long journeys too, so not due to short trips and aborted regens in this instance

My van came with 2 free services. It has done 9279 miles and already had its 1st free service (oil change). So, as I understood it the next free service should be a full service.
In WeConnect it shows it due in 23100 miles but confusingly shows another oil change service due in 8800 miles.
Don’t want to waste a free service on another oil change so will talk to Citygate nearer the time for clarification.

Have you ever thought that the vehicle is older than you think? If it's coming up two years since it was manufactured it will be calling for an oil change. Unless of course it has been switched to 'fixed service', in which case it will be due at twelve months old.

Go to a dealers and ask the parts department (trade counter is best) for a car data print of your VIN, that will tell you the exact date of production plus the full specification of it as built although you may not understand some of it!

The 204PS RDE2 engine hasn't been around that long - that was a specific cause of delays when mine was ordered, so I'm pretty sure that it's new!

But looks the same sort of story for my RDE2 150 too. I'll admit to being slightly confused and a little bit mislead by the dealer about just how long my 4 services would last. But I guess I'll just suck it up and use the pre paid services as and when. Makes sense to be changing the oil more often, especially if contaminated with diesel after failed regens. But the dealer certainly suggested that extended services meant every 2 years and I have now excepted that won't be the case.

Engine has oil quality sensor that overrides the 20,000 service indication.
My 204 came up at the year old point with about 7,500miles done. Did an oil & filter change at local garage and do the 2 year ones with VW.
I do annual oil change regardless of mileage. DIY cost is about the same as a Diesel fill up to put a comparison figure.

Long Life - 2 year/20K services - are mainly a selling point for fleet vehicle purchasers who are looking at operating costs closely. You can simply stick with it by resetting the message when it appears or do your own routine.

We got our van in April last year also. We've done just over 6k so far. Service indicators state major service due in 465 days / 19k miles, Oil change due 465 days / 7k miles. I'll be getting in touch with the dealer to arrange an oil change in April though, as I prefer a yearly oil change regardless of mileage, it's also an opportunity to have the van checked over and get any software / service updates done.

I have an ‘oil change service’ due in 77 days.
My ‘next inspection’ is due in 442 days.
My service plan agreement includes ‘until the 2nd of the following 2 consecutive services’. It then fails to list any following services.
Does that mean I could pay for oil changes to be done elsewhere, and use my 2 consecutive services for the more specialist/expensive VW services?
Or is there more to an oil change service and I should use my 2 service plan services on 1 oil change service and 1 inspection service?
Hope that makes sense?!9404E769-5FCB-4F22-9778-46A64CCD2C36.png

Hi Tim

your service plan will be one minor & one major service

minor is oil and filter

major is as above plus air filter / cabin filter etc

VW will not (as far as Im Aware let you use your minor paid for service as a major)

i.e. When you buy the service plan you buy one minor & one major

I thought the first two year service (20k) is a minor and the 4yr(40k) is major.
The oil change is just that nothing else at 1yr or 10k new to T6.1.

Minor is no more than an oil & filter change in reality

Just a way of vw getting more cash from us then. I’m always told my van is German import not uk but when the cambelt etc on my t6 came up you guessed it uk 4yrs not German import 5yrs over there.

I’ll make sure I raise the few warranty niggles then though:

  1. Waste water tank always the same on overhead display
  2. USB c in front barely charges
  3. Side door soft close repeats
  4. Rear door soft close failure

Point 1 - Ours always shows some water even when empty but does change when full. I believe this is normal?
Point 2 - might be the cable you are using?

Your phone maybe to hot to take a charge
