Why not?
The Volkswagen California is a camper van with the following dimensions:

• Height: 1990 mm (6 ft 6 in)
• Width: 1904 mm (6 ft 3 in)
• Length: 4904 mm (16 ft 1 in)

Unless they carry Campervans/Motorhomes in a special section due to the vehicles having gas canisters.

Unless you have something on the roof or something on a tow hook that's the right size for you. I've done that ferry and the guys at the port are pretty relaxed. You'll be quite small compared to some of things getting on the boat, don't worry about it.

I'm curious about that. Does the factory fitted awning take it above 2,000mm ?
I've measured from the ground to top of awning canister. I measured 2,005mm
I recently dropped my wife off at Manchester Airport. They have a 2,000mm limit with a hanging horizontal bar. I just brushed this going under it. I was very nervous driving through the drop off zone with concrete beams just above my head.

The awning at the back it is higher than the front, if you had not seen that.

We booked this and also colorline crossings Kiel- Oslo under 5 meter and under 2. No problems at all!

We have never had any trouble with DFDS booking as a vehicle under 5m length and 2m height.

We did exactly that crossing with exactly that vehicle a year ago without difficulty. I often take the Cali on ferries and have had no problem with the height.

I've booked as 2.2 x 6 on a DFDS as I've got the bike rack on the back. Even folded, I thought that this might take it over 5m length. (Though in reality, it probably doesn't really impinge on space)

haven taken this ferry a few times, keep the bike rak in mind, bikes sticking out above and aft.

Pretty relaxed? I booked and paid for my trip on line. Got to the port and they came out with an L-shaped measuring stick. I was a few millimetres over (according to their stick) and was moved to standby. I managed to get on though.

Fjord Line? I've done Hirtshals to Kristiansand twice and never saw anything like that, you must have been pretty unlucky.

Returned both times via Kristiansand as well. All sailings with Fjord Line.

It is probably more relevant who you were sailing with?
