The problem with pictures is you just can’t get the scale of the view shown. With that in mind this year I’ve brought 4 types of specialist video camera and a drone for my Alps trip. This is just one short simple clip. I’m loving the results.

Italy?
My daughter is with our van on a trip through the Dolomites. While we try to camp 'wild' whenever it is possible they did not dare to. I think this is the kind of spots they missed badly - because the campings were all expensive, noisy and crowded.

I’ve been to the Dolomites before and found it way too touristy / busy for my liking. I’m out in the western Italian Alps, no one here, stop pretty much where you like. See https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/love-wild-camping-go-italian-alps.21430/

Drone is a DJI Mavic Air. Also using a DJI stabilised gimbal camera plus 2x Insta 360 deg 4K cameras ( awsome bits of kit ) plus a 4K stabilised action cam and my trusty iPhone X. Getting a ton of good footage. Will take me months to edit!

Thanks for the info.
That´s a great place to camp, what time do you
have to turn the music down
Enjoy.

Are you using any of the tracks we sent you? :thumb

I’m still on the ones I know well. Off to go explore Col de Sommelier in a day or two as not done it before. Thanks for your help. Have put some tracks in the sat nav for if I get near. I’m finding many new places on www.dangerousroads.org, it’s right up my rough road.

Now that’s an acceptable use for a drone. I like that.

The tw@t that just buzzes around a campsite annoying everyone and gets upset when you chuck stones/sticks at his Argos drone is painfull.

I totally agree (I have a drone myself but hesitate to use it if anyone is around). But please, don't start the discussion here :D

That is some kit you´ve got there Skewif, Is there any
chance it would be attacked with birds of prey.

Keep the drone footage coming, its good to see.:thumb

The kit is great though not all mine. I bought the drone as it’s not the kind of thing one lends to a novice. It’s so ram packed with tech, I love it.

On YouTube there are many a video where birds of pray bring down Drones. Seems they don’t like the noise either. Have had to duck down quick a couple of times as there are lots of Eagles here and they were getting a tad too curious.
Will try to put a few more clips up. It will take me a while but once back I’ll edit the best bits into a film with music then post. Thanks for your interest... watch this space. Seb.

Escapism at its best.
Maxing out the Cali.
I like it.

Drone use in Italy is OK with some resrictions and logical rules.

Austria is another can of worms.
as the Mavic seems to be 400grammes it's over the toy drone threshold of 250grammes meaning that you'd need a 300 Euros licence and are also subject to Austrian privacy laws. They don't allow dash cams there.

Definition of common sense is definitely undefined and known not be so common as believed.

The Mavic Air is a wonderful piece of kit. Mine goes everywhere with me.
A couple of links here which are useful if you're travelling to different countries and note that next year what is now the UK Drone Code will be law, not just recommendations. Also anyone buying a drone will have to register it and take a basic test. Not sure how this will be regulated but as a CAA licenced drone pilot I reckon this is a step in the right direction.
