Having bought our 2015 T5.1 California back in August i'm still fairly new to all this so apologies in advance if i'm asking silly questions that have already been done to death, however I am confused about the service interval for the cambelt and would be very grateful of the forum collective knowledge please.

Our California is currently on 57000 miles. Cambelt last replaced in August 2019 at 34267 miles.

Looking for information on internet forums and some places suggest to replace every 4 years regardless of mileage. When I bought the vehicle and checked with VW (it has VW FSH) they stated that age was no longer a limit and that it only needed changing every 140000 miles. This seemed a lot to me and if the water pump and tensioner require replacing (had a VW Golf and these were replaced same time as cambelt) then would they last as long as the belt or do I need to get these changed more frequently and if so do you then just get the belt done at the same time anyway?

With regards to the DSG service, it was last done at 38000 miles in Marcg 2020. Would I be correct in thinking that this should be serviced every 40000 miles or 4 years so is now overdue?

As for everyone money is tight and I dont want to spend money on needlessly, but I also dont want to find I need to replace my engine or gearbox because I havent kept them serviced correctly.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Sorry, further to my questions above, wit the belt having been done at 34K in 2019 how can i know that the waterpump wtc was done at the same time (assuming it should be)?

Would 2019 have covered the time period when VW were now stating the longer change intervals.

What would you do if it were your van?

Thanks again

As the vehicle has a VW service history then VW can tell you what was changed with the cambelt.
VW changed from time to pure milage for cambelt change. 80,000 miles seems a good compromise so change it at 120 000 miles.
DSG oil and filter 40,000 miles or 2 yrs is the regime I used.

Thanks WG.

Dug the previous owners receipts out and it states that the cambelt and water pump were replaced, so thats good to know.

So if it were your vehicle you now wouldnt worry about getting those changed again until the van hits 120k (appreciate its my risk)??

Seems like i'm overdue on the DSG oil change and better get myself booked in.
