Cambelt change

Had my cam belt and water pump done at Breeze Poole on Friday and no problem with availability of any parts. My 2010 180bhp dsg7 California is a 2010 with 29k on the clock.

That is odd, You would think that the Breeze chain would talk to each other about parts? Will have to give Totton a call again.

Yes chase that up mate. I just phoned, booked it in and hey presto all done and dusted. No mention of having to special order in anything due to no stock. Good luck with it!

VWCS told me 4 years even though van only done 29k. This was also what the local VW van centre said. I'm booked in next Monday so interested to know if I've been misinformed.
We checked with vwcs and the dealership as ours is 2011 and they confirmed it was every 4 years. Please let me know if you find this is wrong as we have just had our belt and water pump done.

Mine was 5 years old and with 29k on the clock. I saw the old belt and it was in pristine condition however not worth a gamble leaving it until the mileage was high enough to warrant a change imho.

Ours was replaced at 4 years, if you shop around some dealers do offers, we saved £110 by travelling an extra 25 miles to a dealer a bit further away

Ours is just coming up to four years old (2011). Like others called local dealers and VW to confirm when it should be done - 4 years or 130000 miles. Negotiated a price with the local dealer and booked it in; now waiting for water pump! Looks like a bit of bad planning on behalf of vw - they must be able to predict quite accurately how many replacement water pumps they will need - in fact they probably had quite a good idea 4 years ago!

My advice is complain to VWCS that you can't have the belt changed in accordance with their specified schedule as they can't supply water pumps. I explained that I would expect them to cover the cost if the belt failed in the meantime. Hey presto they found a pump!

Well the first person I spoke with at VWCS told me there was no age limit, just mileage, but then (on an unrelated issue) I managed to speak to their technical team who informed me 4 years or 140k whichever is sooner. I'm taking the latter as gospel and will schedule this in around the 4 year mark.

Why on earth there seems to be so much confusion over a straightforward maintenance procedure is really annoying.

Yes couldn't agree more.

Ours went into Totton today for a cambelt change at 5 years and 76K on the clock, ex rental.
Have been waiting since January, Breeze now have pumps so no longer an issue.

I was also told the figures are 4 years or 140K which ever is the sooner.

Well finally my local dealer has got the water pumps in, so in she goes on Monday. She'll be all ready for our trip at Easter and I'll have peace off mind about it.

Did you happen to see the old belt? Mine was same age but less mileage and the bloody thing looked absolutely pristine condition, no crack no splits no nothing. Water pump looked mint too.

They often are, and then bang. £500 bill turns into £5000. Of cause they are cautious with their estimates of life span. If VW do the work at least you get a warranty against those parts failing within the warranty time period. VW aren't alone in this.
