apologies if this is already an active topic - have not located it.

Anyone found a campsite (facilities not so important) near good cycle routes (suitable for an occasional cyclist with teenagers)

southern UK preferably - but interested in any

thanks, Jeannie

This is more South West but excellent location and the Tarka Trail runs virtually through the campsite. Just come back from here last week whilst house hunting.

30 miles of traffic free, virtually flat cycling

Also loads of good cycling in the New Forest.

New Forest, as Martin has already mentioned. We stayed in one of the Camping in the Forest sites earlier this year and rode straight from the van.

I've never stayed here (too close to home) but http://www.townfarmcamping.co.uk/home is close to Ashridge Estate, which is ok for a bit of riding, especially if you go looking for trails away from the main bits. During Bluebelle season it's a colourful place to ride.

A little bit of a drive gets you to Wendover Woods, which has a marked cycle route. Across the road is Aston Hill, which is a lot of fun, but not really occasional cyclist territory.

We've camped at Thetford camping in the forest site before, which is a short drive to the Thetford Forest which has a few marked cycle routes.

If you only want a small amount of easy cycling, delamere forest was a nice spot (c&cc site). Also really handy for a train into Chester and/or a combined ticket for train/bus/zoo !

Teversal, near Mansfield, is well connected to a network of walking and cycling routes, a legacy of the coal mines in the area that closed down back in the 80s. The CCC club site is very nice in summer, and right across the road from one of the paths, and a stone's throw away from the highest point in Nottinghamshire

The camp site even has a bike-and-dog wash-off point.

It's also a quick walk away from a pub, the Carnarvon named after Lord Carnarvon of Tutenkhamun fame. Decent food, unlimited chips!!

Thank you for the very useful replies so far. Some great sounding sites and cycling. Any more? Jeannie
