Just taken my 2008 2.5 130 in for MOT. There was a caveat written on the service sheet to ensure that the customer was aware of the camshaft belt change intervals. The service manager didn't explicitly bring it to my attention, but when I asked about it said it was because the engine was run at high speed for the emissions test.

What surprised me was that the change period is four years or 90k miles.

Any experience or advice? I've done 25k miles

I think, but not 100% sure, that the 2.5 engines had gear cams rather than chains or belt so there shouldn't be a need to change.
One of the reasons why I liked the 5 cyl engine in my previous Cali.

If I'm wrong, sure someone will shout !

Yes, the 2.5 5 cyl engines have gears, not a belt.

At big mileages, I think around 100k mark upwards, there is some sort of coupling (Gates coupling I think it is called) for which replacement is advised - to prevent damage to the engine / gears if some of the ancilliary components (pumps etc) seize up. VW van centre should be able to advise . . . .hopefully . . . .

2.5 engines are gear driven. at 100k or 120k depending on the age, the gates couplings have to be replaced. These run the alternator and air conditioning compressor.

Cheers
