Caravan and camping club

You only get an extension if you renew your membership for another year. I've had enough of this company and have cancelled mine. Independent sites from now on. They are far better. Stick your minimum 3 night stays and dumb magazine about tyre pressures up the same arse your always up.goodbye and good riddance
Have no problems with anyone not being happy with them, but for the benefit of other members it could be handy to give some reasons why in a perhaps less aggressive manner?

Just for you then. Had issue other night at a camp when the owner wouldn't refund friends who had broken down on route. He said he could sell the pitch if he had know ,fair enough,BUT the site still had pitches remaining and he wasn't listening to reason. Northwick farm broadway if you want to know. Had many other issues with this so called friendly club that I give in with them. Independent sites dont have these attitudes like they are doing you a favour by allowing you to stay. No more cash from me. And that magazine is written for imbeciles. I dont want it through my door again.

What an aggressive and unnecessary way to respond to someone who is trying to keep this forum reasonable and useful to as many people as possible. Moderator - your attempts are appreciated.

I was asked to give some reasons. So I did. I make no excuses for not being fed up with that friendly club and its tyre pressure magazine

Strangely enough after I radically changed my itinerary for two campsites this week I was told by both "tough" when asking for my deposit back.

Both independent sites, admittedly they do not send out crap magazines but then it's easy enough to cancel the delivery of those magazines, you are even offered an online option.

Re CCC; during lockdown they (and other clubs) were understandably wanting business by way of future bookings, so introduced a flexible scheme so able to amend booking. Once sites were open again I contacted them to change a date of a booking with deposit paid (I made it clear I did not want a refund). They then said the T&C’s had changed so can’t change only option was to lose deposit. I did point out the T&C’s can’t be changed as we entered a contract on the original booking date. No joy whatsoever. The lady was all too ready to hit the cancel button, I managed to stop her and we went with the booking.
However I was charged the full 20% VAT, I wrote to them asking if I was due the VAT reduction (as per their website) this was July - no response from them to date!

The booking was for the Cheddar site, on arrival I was second of three ’vans. Instructions were to remain in vehicle and warden would come to you. However passenger in third vehicle went into the reception and was duly taken to the pitch ahead of others waiting. I pointed out the non-compliance with their own SOP, much apologising and was shown to the pitch - in fact I was given a choice of two. Groundsheet out for the awning and just about to peg out the awning and pump it up, when the lady returned saying she had given me the wrong pitch, no other option but to move “please“. Reluctantly agreed was was given a pitch I could not level the van, even on the top of the levellers.

With regards Covid secure practice; it became clear as the week went on “newbie campers” had little regard for etiquette and it became clear there were multiple family / friends bookings, with resultant gatherings. We would have left early if this had not been our last night.
Have not used a CCC since.

I'm afraid for the time being it seems to be the new "normal".

I arrived at an independent site two weeks ago, was told to go "to the cabin outside" to check in.

Went in and the Cabin was crammed with people and not a mask in site.

I was told which pitch I was on and it seems fire regs had also gone the way of social distancing, my neighbour was less than three metres away and in the central grass field there were tents pitched, some with guy ropes overlapping. The icing on the cake was clearly the big central tent which was obviously the group meeting place.

I left.

I felt it better to sacrifice £40 than sacrifice my health.

We didn't renew our CCC this year.

I very nearly shot myself in the foot :)

I was on the point of not renewing, then had to totally reconfigure the route for the charity cycle ride next year which left me looking at two alternative campsites, both CS ones :shocked

My £45 membership fee I decided is to be well spent for another year, 2 pitches, total 12 days per pitch.

Yes it is
Is that site not a privately owned CL site?
Yes mate.. but they're using the club's name and advertising to get business. Trust me this bloke was an arse hole and no amount of reasoning would work. My ccc direct debit is cancelled also. I'll manage without them and save 46 quid . I also know about tyre pressures so dont need the magazine either

I know this thread is in respect of the Caravan and Camping Club but does all of this negative feedback also apply to the Caravan and Motorhome Club? Are they different brands of the same organisation?

We still have our Caravan and Motorhome Club(CMC) membership. They got the covid stuff right and we will continue to use them.

No, separate entities.

Agreed - used several CMC sites since July, very content with their arrangements and spacing of pitches

Ironic that the CMC get so much stick for their perceived strict rules and over jealous wardens in normal times but they seem to have dealt with Covid-19 rather well..... I’m getting hooked on the smell of rubber bands in Milton!

Ive stuck to CMC sites this season purely because I trust them to have a decent stab at managing the covid situation.
It helps that theirs are not the sites to go to if you've just bought a tent & want to go camping for the first time without having a clue about etiquette.
I also like the no deposit & easy cancelation facility. Which when you don't know if you are going to be locked down imminently is helpful.

Used to be a member of CCC but gave up when put on a pitch where we had to remove neighbours guy lines to get our motorhome in & out of our pitch & the warder couldn't see what the problem was.

I also find CMC to be as relaxed and as fuss free as it can be whilst providing for a covid-aware environment.

I've gone from the sublime to the ridiculous in the last two weeks, from being met in the yard and everything handled through an "intermediary", a two metre long grab handle, to walking into "reception" and finding myself in a Covid culture factory.

Yep agree 3 nights stay are a complete pain, no good if you work, I’ve now retired but Mrs W is in school so no hope yet, I didn’t renew, but kept my CMC going no complaints so far. To be honest we did try to supply them once ans their mightier than thee attitude of their procurement team was the worst I have seen, dealt with much bigger fish than the CCC and negotiations included a brew and some common courtesy .

Thanks for flagging this up. I'm sure some members will find it

They are losing their customers fast by the sounds of it. But doubt they will notice. I aggressively cancelled mine. I might one day try the cmc instead but I hear they also do the tyre pressure magazine ?

The last mag arrived last week, MrsW flicked through it I asked if there was anything interesting she said no so it’s in the recycling. I do have an old copy under the coffee table, I use it as a place mat for eating my tea off. Sums it up I guess.

The comment about Milton made me smile. It lingers doesn’t it! We were at a CMC site recently and some dripped on my top and took the colour out!
