Caravan and camping club

Re CCC; during lockdown they (and other clubs) were understandably wanting business by way of future bookings, so introduced a flexible scheme so able to amend booking. Once sites were open again I contacted them to change a date of a booking with deposit paid (I made it clear I did not want a refund). They then said the T&C’s had changed so can’t change only option was to lose deposit. I did point out the T&C’s can’t be changed as we entered a contract on the original booking date. No joy whatsoever. The lady was all too ready to hit the cancel button, I managed to stop her and we went with the booking.
However I was charged the full 20% VAT, I wrote to them asking if I was due the VAT reduction (as per their website) this was July - no response from them to date!

The booking was for the Cheddar site, on arrival I was second of three ’vans. Instructions were to remain in vehicle and warden would come to you. However passenger in third vehicle went into the reception and was duly taken to the pitch ahead of others waiting. I pointed out the non-compliance with their own SOP, much apologising and was shown to the pitch - in fact I was given a choice of two. Groundsheet out for the awning and just about to peg out the awning and pump it up, when the lady returned saying she had given me the wrong pitch, no other option but to move “please“. Reluctantly agreed was was given a pitch I could not level the van, even on the top of the levellers.

With regards Covid secure practice; it became clear as the week went on “newbie campers” had little regard for etiquette and it became clear there were multiple family / friends bookings, with resultant gatherings. We would have left early if this had not been our last night.
Have not used a CCC since.
they can keep the VAT ‘decrease’ but tbey cant call it 20% VAT that is misrepresentation

I am a member of the camping and Caravan club and I must say that the experiences I have witnessed this year I've been exceptional and very professional unfortunately like most places you do get the odd one or two managers/site wardens who don't realise that you pay their wages as such. I personally do not have a membership for the caravan & motorhome club as we had a bad experience a couple of years back and decided not to renew my membership with that particular club, we do use club sites as well as private sites and we have experienced problems mainly on the private sites where some owners do not wish to intervene even when music is being played at 2 o'clock in the morning which was left to the people who were being disturbed to sort out very quickly indeed. I am not having a dig at any particular club or independent campsite it's just the way people are unfortunately they do not consider other people and families and think they are above the campsite rules how long they were.

I prefer the Caravan Club sites to CCC personally, you know exactly what you are going to get, it is a different kind of camper you also find there.
I don’t mind being around old people either as I have never had the 2am issue whilst being on a club site, if that means hanging around the olds then count me in, peace, quiet, yes please.
I am a member of both clubs, lots more choice off season for your travels.

ditto but Iam over 62

They are losing their customers fast by the sounds of it. But doubt they will notice. I aggressively cancelled mine. I might one day try the cmc instead but I hear they also do the tyre pressure magazine ?

You can opt out of the mag but if you had been stopping at the broadway site instead of the CS 200 yards behind it then you could have booked without deposit (£18.50 one person, one unit), cancelled without penalty, just about the same distance walk to the Lygon arms and nice toilets where you might just find a good use for the magazine.

CCC website is absolutely shite.

So I think I have a “digital” membership, but there is no way to find my membership number, membership start or renewal date, membership renewal costs, billing date etc. etc. from their website. Their whole website is appalling, it’s like it was built on the cheap 20 years ago.

Don’t you have the CCC Members ID card? All the details are on that. If you are not a paid up member then you cannot log on. Renewal for Digital membership is, I think, £44. No printed site guide.

Thanks WG. Can’t seem to find my plastic card thingy. It’s just such a frustrating website, You need to know your membership number to book a certified site, ,if you can only log on if your a member, why can’t they show your membership number?

I’m sure that when I go on the site it remembers my membership number probably because I have saved my details.
Never had a problem using it to be honest.

Isn't your number on the welcome email thing ? Or maybe even on an old booking ?

I agree that the C&CC web site is not as wizzy as some are these days, but that is often useful when you are in a remote area with a poor signal as there is not so much to load. I have always found them extremely helpful on the phone Telephone: 024 7647 5448 and they usually reply very rapidly. They will quickly confirm whether your membership is current or not.
I've not seen an advantage in the digital only version. The financial saving is relatively small and we have always found it easier to search the Big Site Book when you are looking for the next site.
