I need a brand new 907 gas bottle as I only have a 904 I think it is which is quite small? Some places want over £60 for a new one. I have tried the local dump but they would not allow me to take an empty for safety reasons

Keep an eye on eBay, going rate for an empty one is about £5 then exchange for a full one, our local place charges £20 for a refill. There were some full ones on eBay in Birmingham & essex for £25 a couple of weeks back when I was looking but they will be collection only.

I got 2, a full one and an empty one for £5 from my local tip.:bananadance

You must have very friendly staff there, our "tip" appears to be staffed by ex Gestapo :(

+1 For going to local tip/recycling centre got 2 empties free :bananadance

Ebay ...

Then being a lazy tart I have gasbottlesdirect deliver me an exchange cylinder for £28. Ok, a bit expensive but saves a lot of hassle. Two bottles, one in the van, one waiting to be exchanged.

Car boot sales in spring 2 for £5 last year, think people have a shed clear out

Get the cheapest one you can find, eBay , tip , anywhere.
I got a dreadful looking rusty one,
Took it to local go outdoors , and they swopped it for a full one in much better condition.
I saw they sold new ones empty for 27 pounds, but you would then have had to give it back to them and they would have given you a full old one!

Just today got myself a spare (think it's the 3th spare:D but could not walk past thisone...) at a carbooth sale .

3 euro / € !!!
Original cap included
With a burner on and 3/4 full :thumb

I managed to get an empty of ebay for £3! Took it to gooutdoors to exchange for a full cylinder, as I had a voucher, fitted it before going away only to find it was empty. Waiting on reply from them about what they are going to do about it, even though I can't prove it was empty.

....seems to me not all that clever from your side.
There's a weight diffrence between the two you should have noticed and the fact you feel the gas move in the cylinder if you shake it....
They sure fooled you , that guy who gave you a empty botlle back is now backing eggs&beans for breakfast with your gas .

as HC said the weight difference is quite marked between a full and empty 907 bottle and you cant muddle the full and empty up as there is a red seal on the full bottle.

I did mention about the weight but the guy reassured me it was correct. This was the first time I'd bought a new cylinder for the van, so didn't know any different.
If they don't give me anything back at least it only cost a tenner and not the full price. I replaced their empty somewhere else and it was cheaper than gooutdoors normal price.
Lesson learned.

Shake it, you'll hear the liquid sloshing around inside, or not if its empty.
(That's compressed gas in liquid state by the way ).

did it have a seal

Ah, see I didn't know about the seal until I purchased my second bottle :headbang
Is it common practice to have the carry handle on when exchanging a bottle. The guy at the other shop would not touch my bottle without it, mine was obviously at home, so told him he could keep the one of the new bottle.

The most shops do NOT take the empty botlle back without the cap/handle....

1 euro in Morocco but the cylinder I got was so battered that when I tried to exchange it the next time in the UK they refused :(

15 euro at the campsite in Haro Spain in June.

Go outdoors have an offer on at the moment....
£35 full including bottle so ideal for new van or spare.
