1st outing in the new cali 6.1 and loved it. i found the bed downstairs quite hard with the fold out mattress that came with it.
have been looking at either memory foam toppers or self inflating mattress but unsure as to which is be option for comfort facto.

any advise appreciated

TIA

Welcome to the club. I can recommend a chiropractor.........
The "Comfort" mattress is a travesty. I will be picking up a Calibed Prestige III replacement this weekend.

Ouch that’s expensive

You will find a gazillion threads on this forum in which most people come to the conclusion that the Sea 2 Summit SIM (the campervan version) is the best and most comfortable solution. There are several other options, but the overall consensus here seems to be that the S2S SIM Campervan is the best. Expensive though.

I own one myself and love it. Worth every penny. But took me a while to convince myself to buy it. Test-sleeping in a shop doesn't really work.

We use original t6 mattress with additional zonesleep and duvalay toppers, sleep very well downstairs and in pop top. Getting the toppers up is a workout though.

Sea 2 summit solved my Cali back. Used upstairs and also down if you buy the bespoke cutout version

We found the Comfort Mattress a little firm at first but bought a very good (& soft) double sleeping bag & now sleep really well.

Plus we have perfected the art of the pre-packing the van with the 3 seater bench folded down (in bed position) so that we can convert into a 4 berth hotel on wheels by simply ‘unrolling’ the whole thing - without needing to get out the van (if necessary, as was preferable in a ski resort car park in heavy rain!) The headrests fit nicely on the top of the dashboard with pins forward towards the windscreen & help secure our homemade internal roll out windscreen black (made from laminate flooring underlay). We have used two single inflatable mats (Go Outdoors £10) under the Comfort Mattress if we wanted a slightly softer bed on longer trips. See how you would be my advice!

We have two single Duvalay mattresses which have zip on sheets with a duvet pocket holding a single duvet. We use them on top of the comfort mattress and sleeping up top. They have transformed van life for me as I did not sleep well on the comfort mattress downstairs or on the supplied one in the pop top. We have the 40mm freshtec and they are terrific.

We have the S2S but find it a faff to put up and down all the time so just use a Duvalay on the uncomfort mattress. Makes it spot on for us. The two together actually make a great combination.

During the day we just fold it in three on top of the uncomfort and can get the seats back into a living position in a minute.

Sea2Summit self-inflating mattress. It's the absolute best. I also use a Woolroom topper. Because I don't mind saying so, I am a princess.
