Sorry but gone through numerous posts about bolts for spare wheel carrier,
have purchased second hand vw alloy with 235/55/17 tyre and a secondhand carrier which came with aprox 2 55mm length bolts and a security bolt with key.
being a 235 tyre will i need the longer bolts? and do i need what looks like plastic spacers (see Photo) i presume these are just to stop overtigtening bolts? are these indeed necessary!
Lastly the bolt with the bit of metal on the end is not complete any one have the part no? presume i need the long one?

I believe the spacers are so the unit hangs at the right height and hold the carrier & wheel without bouncing. The end “bolt” is a hinge pin. The genuine full sets inc bolts, spacers and pins are easy enough to pick up online from recollection.

Spacers needed for the 17" wheel as it is 7" wide (rim). 16" is narrower and didn't need the spacers.

Front hinge point has 2 positions with the lower one for 17" wheel - if memory serves.

Wonder if anyone has the length of spacer i know there are about £6 but bit of cut tubbing will be sufficient, just picked up correct bolt from breeze £16.56 cheaper than eBay! so just need tyre now!
local dismantler wanted £45 for part worn, so may opt for economy new at £75

I’ve got some coming later in the week and can measure them for you if you haven’t found out by then

Yes please
Hi, they arrived today. The longer metal spacer (#7 in your illustration) is 35mm long. I was also sent a shorter 25mm plastic spacer with a larger diameter which I assume is #10 but I’m not sure what that’s for!

Hope that helps.

Are you fitting a 235/55/17 wheel ? if so what's the part no of spacers as decided to get real bits!

235/65/17

Haven’t fitted it yet but will confirm it all works when I have. I ordered from LLLParts, I already had the bracket and I’m not paying best part of £80 for a couple of bits of bitumen for damping! I shall fashion something from some foam I have lying around…

Here’s what I ordered

Thanks, will try mine without buses not sure there necessary, when the weather is better just ordered tyre of black circles by far the cheapest!
If your fitting 235/65/17 whats you main tyres as mine are 18” so nearest rolling diameter is 235/55/17 just seems odd size?

I’m running KO2’s 255/55/18’s (with a lift) so like you I chose the 235/65/17’s as they have the same rolling diameter and I found a steelie with a KO2 on this forum that fits the bill!

TBH getting a puncture with the KO2’s is very unlikely, I’ve done a fair bit off road and they are almost bomb proof. I’m planning a big trip next year with quite a lot of dirt road so just wanted the reassurance of a proper spare.
