Hi
Does anyone know what it would cost to add a black VW awning to a California that doesn’t already have one?

£800 + fitting costs if purchased from the Forum Shop.
If supplied and fitted by VW nearer £1500.

If included in a New Order then about £600 I believe.

Thanks! Decisions are needed whether to order with or without an awning.

I ordered without.... Ended up a big regret..... Bought a second-hand one, for sub-£500.... But it had a few scrapes etc, and was silver when I would've preferred black, beggars can't be choosers tho....

It's also not covered by the VW warranty, as a factory fit one would've been.... So, bummer decision all around not to add to my order at the time.

Is my understanding correct that the Thule awning is the exact same as the VW awning?
I.e Thule supply VW with the awnings.

I’ve just come across this info in the last 5 mins

no brainer if you want an awning buy when ordering your van

Yep. It´s a Thule.

I also ordered without and am now looking to retro fit one I was quoted £1300.00
To buy a VW one from Listers in Coventry ,without fitting. If the budget stretches get one when you order your van.

Definitely order one. We use ours all the time on picnics and camping. It's really not a Cali without one. We ordered ours as a dealer fit as the demo we were buying didn't have an awning. We didn't get much change from £1000 after a hefty discount. :(

Order with the awning.
Easy to remove and sell if you change your mind.
Much, much more expensive the other way round.

You also have the option of a Fiamma F45s, I believe the shop also sell these. I self fitted, not difficult to be honest and the same attachment method for Thule and Fiamma..

The older thules VW used had a seam in them (probably a cheaper option for them?), the ones direct from Thule did not have this seam. This seam was rather a weakness in hot weather for some and had a tendency to melt the glue. That said I understand that they have now got rid of the seam design? Can anyone confirm?

Be aware that if you by a new or used Thule, it is from the latest production.

Thule have changed the fabric that used to be welded out of two pieces, to a whole one piece. The problem was the glue did fail and the fabric would split when in sunlight. I had two awning changed on warranty. Now I got the new model.

We bought our van second-hand & it didn't have an awning. For a few years we used a thread-in awning but it was just a b nuisance, blowing out in any slight draught.

So earlier this year we got a wind-out cassette awning supplied & fitted by SMG Cowfold, total cost £839.23. It's fantastic - so quick to wind out, and it makes a massive difference to our camping comfort.

I should have said, this was the standard VW-fitted Thule model.

I recently contacted Rose Awnings about a seal to go between the VW awning and the van to stop water dripping in the van with the side door open. They told me that although they were authorized Thule dealers they could not supply parts for Cali and I would have to get the seal directly from VW.
Although as with most Cali things the seal its self was not cheap the real cost came with the fact that the awning had to be dismounted and remounted to get the seal fitted.
In your position I would save my self time and trouble and get the awning fitted before the van is delivered.

Yes I can confirm that there is not a seam in the awning on ours now.

I've been quoted £868 Inc VAT from VW Liverpool (Speke) this does not include fitting which I'm told would be 1 1/2 hours at £85 per hour, he did suggest I fit it myself as It wouldn't be difficult
