Cyclist's and CoronaVirus

There are lots of reasons why regular Cyclists wear Lycra which can be googled if you were interested.
Well I do wish they wouldn't. Mrs B and I are still traumatised by the rear view of a male cyclist that we drove behind some years ago. His Lycra shorts had seen better days to the point that he must have felt rather draughty round the Trossachs. If he'd have opened his mouth we could have seen the road ahead. :Nailbiting

Almost a fight and we only been semi locked down for a few days god help us by the end of 6 months.

I love cycling. Not been able to do it for a while. Got a City bike and a road bike and more Lycra than you can shake a stick it. Yes it can be dangerous but you can reduce the odds.

Personally my worst falls have been at slow speed.

Not only do I not want to spread or catch the virus I don’t fancy a trip to casualty either and I’m sure they don’t want to see me.

Stay home people.

A good place to park a bike by the sound of it .

It’s the same with skiing...
The amount of people I know who have seriously injured themselves at slow speeds or on easy runs.

I think when your at maximum speed or critical accents you’re more focused on the task in-hand...
Same with cycling.

Yes I drove to the chemist. Read it again!!

I said I had been out previously on my bike for excercise on a cycle path travelling at a slow speed. Don't worry, I am not one of these lycra clad idiots that think they are in the tour er France and hated by the majority of the population
Maybe you could have combined the two into one trip and cycled to the chemist.

In constantly infuriates me that Clare complains of being stuck in traffic on the way to the gym to ride a stationary bicycle.

I am a cyclist and I agree with the OP as he is talking about the current situation and not cycling in general , there are plenty of safer ways to excercise at moment with out putting pressure on our amazing emergency services. It's also the same reason I am not up a ladder painting the sofits that are in urgent need of painting at the moment. It's all about reducing risk.

I wonder if any anthropologists out there have thought of using a forum such as this to model the escalating mentality behind pogroms etc? Seed a discussion with a statement attacking an identifiable sub-group of society and see how others pile in.

Happily, for most sub-groups, the subsequent ill thought out, or even bigoted, comments are now seen as unacceptable. We did see a misleading comment about mosques a few days ago but happily that was soon damped down. In the popular current terminology, in that case, R<1.

But when the words ‘lycra’ or ‘cyclist’ are used, unfortunate behaviour is still apparently more acceptable. Even some of the more reasonable members of the forum have joined in.

The reality is that there are thoughtful and safe road users, bad road users and a spectrum in between. It is unhelpful to label them with the type of transport that they use or the clothes that they wear. Clearly users of some types of transport, when used badly, present a significantly greater risk than others. That is better explored through historical data and common sense rather than prejudice.

Use the roads safely; protect the NHS; save lives.

Rather than a turbo trainer, get some rollers. Incredible for fitness and more fun. However:

Danger of death, reasonable.

Danger of injury, high.

At least I'm at home!

Now I've refuse to use rollers. Way too dangerous. Everyone crashes.

Hardly any travel news on the radio at moment but today as cyclist got hit by a tractor locally, I dread to think of the amount of resources took up as the air ambulance was called. All the farmers are out at the moment due to the good weather so why would anyone risk cycling ? My exercise currently consists of sit ups in my bedroom

Heard on the radio today that a woman power walking in her garden, slipped and badly broke her wrist. I dread to think of the amount of resources that took up as an ambulance was called and a visit to A&E taking hospital resources away from Covid 19 patients.

it’s not just cyclists, anyone can have an accident. Best to stay in bed all day long. By doing any activity at all you are putting yourself at risk. Watch you don’t crick your back doing those sit ups.

The photo was a stock one from the internet. However, I have gone flying before.
I find I get bored on turbo trainers but the extra concentration and balance required works wonders.
I generally only XC outside and it has vastly helped me on narrow single track.

Roll on!

Well, this is good :D

I went to have my dinner when it got to page 2 and came back to page 4 :shocked

We all need our exercise. Personally I can't see a lot wrong with someone rolling on their lycra and getting on a bike, no different to me bolting on my shoes and going for a run, although I am now self-limiting to not more than 10k instead of 10 miles and over.
