Dash Camera, anyone use or recomend?

As the title says does anyone use a dash camera to record while driving ? And if so what models do you use/recommend.

Just something I'm looking into while waiting for our delivery.

Hi Chris

We have a Nextbase 402g fitted into our Cali with the power lead simply pushed into and around the door trim and connected to the socket behind the passenger seat. The 402g records in 1080p which delivers very good images.

In my car I have been using a Mini 0805 (now 0806) for several years without trouble. Have it fixed hidden behind the mirror and wired to the power for the interior light. Techmoan dot com is a great review site for dash cams.

Got an RAC 205 in the front and a DOD S460W in the back. Got a bit paranoid after being run into twice this year.
The RAC camera also has a speed camera warning which can be updated once a month. There was a 25% discount on it through this site, not sure if it's still on.

Blackvue front and rear here. Mounted behind the rear view mirror and connected so it comes on automatically and remains recording for 6 hrs after you park up. Thought I had better go for something that was fully automatic.

i use a simple go pro session. I know not a proper dash cam and I'm thinking of buying a Garmin NüviCam...

Anyone know if insurance companies have an approved list of cameras for reduced premiums?
I had a cheapo one for a while but got fed up with it - poor image quality, filling up memory cards too fast, having to install and remove it every day.
Do people leave them fitted permenantly? I wouldn't want to attract scrotes that might break in and steal it!

I have a next base 402g, well my husband does, and he spends hours playing with it and watching playbacks so anything that keeps him amused and quiet must be good

I notice that you have Newcastle as your location, did you ever get a dash cam? I use the Nextbase 402 and they sell them in Costco, Gateshead, as long as you are not Newcastle, Australia ;-)

I'll be happy to get one for you and even show you mine if you show me your California.

thanks il have a look down there as we are members. How do you rate them are they easy to use and how good is the picture. Is the mountings any good?

Very easy to use and to set up. The ones in Costco comes with a little neoprene case and an 8Gb sandisk card, replaced mine with a 32Gb. £119 I believe.
I'm very pleased with mine, picture is good in all weathers. There is a chap on Youtube (technoman) that reviews lots of them.
We are replacing our vehicle this year and I was considering a dual camera, (1 Front x 1 back) and they are also on this chaps channel. It has a seperate recorder and the cameras are Oxo cube size.

Fixing is a rubber cup mine fell off once, when I was attaching but no problems since. I remove and replace mine for every journey.

Happy to demo if needed.

I use the RAC 07, I have a short lead that I wound round a pencil to make it curly and it is plugged into the cig socket on top the dash. It is a great unit but the emergency record is only 30 seconds. However I have a 32g card so more than covers a days drive and if I ever have an issue then I know the file required will still be there.
