I've discovered that dealer bought van I'm considering at auction. Auction only mentioned some cosmetic issues but wondered if this is a red flag. Why would previous owner sell at auction? Any advice?

Someone could of died and the relatives didn’t know what else to do with it?

Was this a public auction or dealer auction?
I think dealer auctions are common where the public sell to we buy any car, Carwow, motorway etc. Then dealers bid.
If it was at a public auction it may raise a few more questions.

It was a specialist motorhome auction
Hmm
What I'm getting at is, was the auction open to the public?
Who is the dealer?

I believe he auction was open to all. Bought by a caravan dealer (with only one negative review)

Which engine does it have?

+ May have been received in part-ex at a garage that does not deal in campers or has limited forecourt space…so auction frees up cash, better for cash flow.

You might be better off buying privately, as may pay a lessor price and the seller will be able to tell you the full history of the van,

Oh OK.
Can't really help except to say I got a decent price for mine via motorway and I knew dealers bid, not open to the public. It was quicker than trying to sell on here (unfortunately) and quite simply, you go through the ringer in describing your vehicle in the first instance and if you have been accurate they don't muck about. The offers I had here were all loose and would have saved private buyers a few £K over the dealers selling price.
So in those cases, so long as the dealer is truthful with the resale the vehicle will be as described.

If it helps I also took a similar route selling mine through webuyanycar.

It was not a route I thought I would ever take as mine was a top spec 2017 4Motion with no faults, FSH from dealer and low mileage.

I got quoted a great price and when I took it in the whole process was handled by phone with videos etc through their high value department.

My reason for posting is that the value was achieved as I had all the service history in date order together with the original documents showing the extras on the vehicle.

I was surprised.

Be warned that due to high value they checked all the documentation over the course of a couple of days and then released the money.

From deciding to sell to getting funds was a total of 4 days.

My research showed they are owned by a Venture Capital company who own a number of other companies including British Car Auctions. I expect mine will be sold through the auctions.
