Downstairs bed mechanism

Hi folks....a question in relation to the bench bed mechanism. Mine is a bit stiff and requires a bit of force to open the lever so I'm thinking of oiling / greasing it. The question is how do you get at it. I've looked to see if I can take out the drawer unit and also if I can get at it from the rear but nothing jumps out at me. Does anybody know how to do this or has anybody done it before?

You will need to take the drawer out and then remove the sheet metal covers (lots of Torx bolts) to gain access to the mechanism. Have a look at the last posting on this thread; http://vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/seat-noise.9902/#post-92378

we are new to this, just had our van two week, and seem to be having a similar issue . bench seat handle mechanism pretty stiff and when seat 'appears fully forward' the handle does not jump back into position ...just kind of hangs out ! when seat moved back the handle sits back flush !
are we maybe not bringing the rear seat far enough forward on the rails although it seems to stop at this point approx 6/7 inch from end of rail ?
any ideas ?
