Would it be ok to fit our old drive-away awning tent into the kador-strip holding front edge of our recently-fitted wind-out awning?

If it is ok, how far is it prudent to wind out the awning?

Any thoughts gratefully received.

We often fit our driveaway awning to a fully extended wind out awning.

Just looking at this and we have a drive away awning which would work better up close to the van instead of a canopy depth apart. I know there is a channel underneath if you pull the canopy out a bit, do you think it would be ok to attach to if we wound the canopy out an inch or so to reveal the channel, attach the awning and then wind the canopy back in to tension the awning?

Anyone doing this already?

Thanks.

Yes that would work you could also open the awning about an inch then put the figure of eight on top of the front flap winding it back in to trap it giving you a little more height

Thank you. so simple. Job done.

What a great forum this is!!

There is only one size you will need 3 lengths totalling about 2.4 mtrs

We use a single length figure of 8, no joints no drips 20150922_161604.jpg 20150922_161710.jpg

Thanks, sorry I mean what size channel? The awning I was thinking of getting says it comes with a 6mm Kador strip already attached & the video I watched on you tube said to attach that to the figure of 8 on one side then attach the other side of the figure of 8 to the van, but that the figure if 8 comes in two sizes either 6mm on both sides or 6mm on one side & 4mm on the other side depending on the size on the van side, so do I need a 6mm to 6mm or a 6mm to 4mm? Sorry this may sound like a daft question I don’t know, this is all alien to me as I am new at all this stuff!

If you have a VW awning it is 6mm, so you will need a 6mm / 6mm Kader strip. That’s what we have. Hope that clarifies. :thumb

Oh but have just come across this in another thread, it says the 6mm is too big for the Cali & they recommend a 4mm. Now I’m confused again!!

I've just tried a 6mm kador in my Thule awning.
It´s a nice fit.

Do you carry the 2.5m strip inside the van when travelling?
Do you clip the strip onto the awning cassette cover, and does it mark it (I’ve got the black wind out awning)?
Thanks, Graham
yes the single length figure of 8 sits on the top bed when travelling, it slides on to 6mm kador which slides under the cassette cover in to the 6mm recess
