We will be driving in Ireland in August. We have a T5 with the wheel on the left side. Do we need to cover the front lights in order not to blind the traffic? Where in Belgium can this be done?

We went to Wales last month and i bought those stickers on the ferry .
Putted them on but did not exactly knew if it was i good fit as the manual that came with the stickers was confusing.
Think if you just put these on in case they pull you over you be ok as you probally won't be driving much in dark in the summer or have you got other plans travelling at night?

No, but i thought in Ireland it is necessary to put on the lights even at daytime?

I think you better do just in case ...you never know a tunnel or so on yout road and blinding people causing a accident ...it's not worth the few euro's for the stickers.
There are other threads on those stickers as you can buy them for european cars driving in UK and other way arround

I don't think lights need to be on during daylight hours in Ireland. Have a look here

They do not need to be on in Northern Ireland as this is part of the UK and that rule doesn't apply to the UK.

As the headlights are plain glass on a T5, using the sticky covers, as sold at the ferry, is difficult, as in my experience, aligning them correctly is virtually impossible, as confirmed by Wim.

In the UK you can buy headlight protectors from the VW dealers that include a set of black sticky covers and a marking on the plastic protectors for the correct position. These protectors clip on and off easily and work very well. I use them whenever we travel in Europe.

Your VW dealer should have these on the shelf.

BTW, Ireland does not like radar speed detectors or speed camera detectors, so do disable this function on your Sat Nav

Thank you, that's really helpful information!

Having your dipped headlights on is only to help you to be seen, if you have DRL lights thats fine, about 50% of people drive with them on, biggest peril is the poor roads once you turn of the motorways! Enjoy, apparently we've the warmest rain in Europe this year!

I am based in Ireland with left hand drive T5. I put the round part of the sticker only (one you can get on the ferry or every Halfords), as specified in the manual. I get noticed by other drivers that it's still blinding them at nighttime so I lowered the beam to no.2 setting. Well, between 1 and 2 is alright. So far so good. Enjoy wild camping in Ireland!

Sure what would you be doing driving at night when you should be sitting on a high stool enjoying a pint of black porter and listening to an auld fella belting out a mournful old "comeallya" in front of a blazing turf fire.
Driving should only be done during the daytime when you can enjoy the view.
Enjoy your trip.. Drive with just your parking lights on during the day if you like to be seen..
