help please!

I’ve got my 2018 Ocean booked in with VanStyle to have the Eibach Pro 30mm lowering springs added. I’ve been reading good and bad comments on ride quality and I’m now having doubts as to whether I should go for the Bilstein B14’s instead as these get mentioned a lot as a far better option.

I decided originally on the Eibach as they didn’t affect the VW Warranty which having a new van is obviously important but now I’ve been told it only affects the warranty part on the suspension not the whole van and as Bilstein comes with their own warranty it’s not really a big thing but I’m still having the wobbles on it.

What’s people thoughts that have done this, did you get the Eibach’s then end up getting the B14’s after a while. What’s the chances of a warranty issue arising? Is there really a big difference between the 2?

Had b14s on our 15plate Kombi and I can say there fantastic the ride quality is soft yet firm if that makes sense ...not wallowing around ect.could not fault them have 30mm vw fitted on our new Cali there fine ,a better ride than the original standard spring but nowhere near as good as the b14s on the Kombi so if it doesn’t affect the warranty I’d say go b14s
Hope this helps

I think you would find that the whole suspension system and possibly anything reliant on it could have the Warranty cancelled if a Non-VW approved part is fitted, not just the item in question.

Yes this what I'm thinking also and that is a far too big of a risk to take after giving it some thought. I will see how the 30mm Eibach Springs go

As far as warranty goes, they will try and wriggle out of anything changed or affected by a change that wasn't factory.
Whichever make you use you might not be able to claim for drive shaft wear as the angle has changed but apart from that there should be no adverse effect on any other component as far as a claim goes.
Having made the decision to change them, I would suggest going for best performing/recommended.

These are also discussed a lot on the t6forum as there are more modders' on there than here.

Its my understanding that the Eibach springs are the ones VW use and fit so they have no affect to the warranty?

As long as they have a VW part number on them you'll be fine then.. Also helps if you get your VW dealer to fit them in that case.

I ran Bilsteins on a t5 panel van for many years, then I broke a shock on a pot hole and couldn't find a single replacement, so I took them off. They were OK and I loved the lowered stance, but with hindsight the ride was too harsh, I wouldn't run them again.

I currently have the factory 30mm lowering springs and whilst it handles and looks better than the normal springs, I think I will be going for H&R -50mm springs next time. They are a very good quality spring and not prone to breaking like cheaper lowering springs on the market.

I should add that non VW parts will affect any dealer repair in the relevant area at any time.

I got caught with a set of HR springs and a need to get some work done on the suspension at my local VWCV dealer. They would not replace the anti roll bar drop arms because of the 'non VW parts fitted'. As I was stuck for time, I had to have the springs changed to the VW Eibach ones to get the suspension repairs done.

Having just gone through this quandary myself in the last four weeks [I bought a set of B14's from Vanstyle and returned them before fitting] I can categorically say, 100% if you fit the B14's it WILL invalidate your warranty. I had numerous email conversations with numerous VW dealerships. They all said the same. Non OG VW parts? Warranty invalidated.

Yes but only the warranty on the coils and damper, but they come with a 3 year warranty fro bilstien or Eibach so you’re not without warrant, just ensure a go company like TransportHQ fit them and any issues you have warrant.

Warranty issues aside, it’s worth mentioning that you don’t only have a choice of Eibach springs or Bilstein B14’s. There are other coilover kits or shock/spring options to chose from. I would ask whether you need adjustable coilovers if you’re not going to adjust them. Better value and ride may come from, for example, H&R lowering springs and Koni special active or sports shocks. It’s worth talking to some specialists such as CRS in Cannock or Bognor Motors before spending any money. Tell them what you’re looking for (e.g. lowered stance, less body roll, better ride over pot holes etc) and they’ll tell you the best options to achieve that.
