Probably only thing on my list before I place order. Seen it on a Caravelle and liked it. My main concern is that it's something else to go wrong and the noise issue at night. From what I've read though that is mixed as closing the doors manually is hardly silent.

Anyone got it and wish they hadn't?

I've got one and glad l have! I have found it particularly useful on cold wet days when I want to have the door open for as short a time as possible. It can be switched to manual but to be honest I've got lazy!

Excellent didn't know it went to manual.

Ah, Found a thread on it now. Will have a read.

Switches to manual but beware it's VERY heavy to operate presumably due to resistance from the motors. My wife can't use it on manual

I had electric on my first Cali and manual on my current one. Much prefer the manual door and wouldn't go back to electric even if there was no price difference.

This was the one option that my wife insisted upon, though I wasn't particularly interested.

This came about after we test drove a Cali with a manual door and, at the end of the test drive, the van was parked facing nose down on an incline. As a result, my wife struggled to open the sliding door and was convinced that our children might not be able to do so in similar circumstances and could be hurt by it. Therefore, she insisted.

I'm worried about any possible fault issues but I'll be taking the extra 2 years warranty and am unlikely to keep the van past 5 years so should be fine.

Rhyddin - I can appreciate your wife's concern but also I have the same concern with the motorised version. What if a small child or in my case a dog were in the way (especially a tail which is small and by definition sticking out...) - how safe are the automated doors then?

Good point - I've not even seen one in action!
I've assumed (often a mistake) that it will have the same bounce-back function as an electric window.
Fingers crossed! :Nailbiting

@DMB9R, @ArunAlec, can you confirm? Does it have a bounce back?

Yep, it does. In fact mine needed adjustment as it was over sensitive. This was a software tweek by the dealer.

I think I've been convinced - glad to hear the reaction time is so good. What's made me realise I probably should have gone for it is when parked on a slope. Even on a small uphill slope (like my driveway) if you don't hold the door whilst opening it can slide open so fast that I'm concerned it will get damaged. On closing, and I'm pretty strong, it's a real work out when on a hill.
May need to save some pennies for a retrofit electric door in the future...:headbang

I have the electric door on my t5 2013 and it's great for every day use dropping kid to school and loading shopping etc . However I have had a lot of problems with it it's had a new sensor in the rubber and a new motor and there is the noise it make when closing ( beeeep beeeep beeeep beeeep ) this is very annoying at night in camp sites and as far as I can see it can't be turned off ( the noise that is ) and when you switch it to manual it's quite heavy too heavy for my son you use

More or less exactly what my dealer said. He advised against and I agreed based on the heavy door in manual mode and the drain on battery when rough camping.

I don't get the "noise on campsites" argument. Just how often do you go in and out at night and besides, never heard a caravan or motorhome door slam shut? Just as noisy if not noisier.

We only have manual but having been loaned a Cali with an electric door when we were looking I'm really regretting not having it now. The number of times I've had to put down what I'm carrying to then tug the door open, with a freezing cold wind blowing or horizontal rain, no thanks, electric next time.

I don't get this. If you have the key fob in your hand to open the door then you can open the door manually. Personally, I don't see the problem and my drive is sloping!
As far as campsite use is concerned then I haven't heard any Motorhomes go Beep,Beep when someone opens the side door and has been mentioned, switching off the Electric Sliding function makes it a much heavier door compared to the Manual version. But then if you need that assistance then so be it. :thumb

We have electric, and it's brilliant! One warning though, accidently hitting the wrong button on the remote can result in walking away from a van you think you have locked, only to return with your shopping to find the side door wide open! Or am I the only idiot to do this?
Probably.
