Engine brake,DSG

My van is almost identical to yours , and I don't have the problem . I would go for a second opinion, may be from a different VW garage , as it is likely to be covered by warranty.

Trouble is that article has very little about modern small Diesel engines. It tends to concentrate on Jake and Exhaust brake systems found on big HGV diesels.

I didn't know that and will certainly use from now on as I haven't liked the thought of the brake lights flashing. I thought that the switch would only turn it on or off and, therefore, I'd lose the set speed.

You will fail your driving test if you coast in neutral as you are not in control of your vehicle.
Ref brakes and wear
"Gears are for going , brakes are for slowing " is what us class 1 hgv drivers are trained
