To fit the Porta Potti into the cupboard below the sink we need to move the shelf onto the highest setting. The holes for the 4 pegs are already drilled into the cupboard sides. But there is a black electrical connector for the led lights in just the wrong place. It stops the shelf resting on the back peg by about 2mm. It's the black sticky(I think) bracket that is just in the way. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you think I should cut a nick out of the self (using a hacksaw?) or try and prize the black sticky bracket off the cupboard side? Hope the picture help. Thanks.IMG_20250421_181819.jpg

I’d prise the sticky off and refit it higher with some new 3M tape.

I’d then put the Thetford in the boot rather than lose valuable cupboard space ;)

Definitely Porta potti in the Boot, away from food storage, cutlery, pots, and pans. Keeps the weight between the axles and the lighter porta potti in the back (assuming it's empty )

I had the same issue. I adjusted the the light just enough to get the shelf in higher, without cutting the shelf.

Contrary to others above, the position below the sink is easily the best place for us, though I can understand why others like it in the back. There is a mod to the rear seat slide (removing the stop) that then allows the slim and agile to slip around the seat into the back without ‘disembarking’. A search should find that.

The raised shelf retains a perfect space for toilet related bits:

Don’t think there’s a right or a wrong way to arrange things. Ours lives in the cupboard under the sink. Quick and easy to get it in and out - converting the living space into a bathroom at night without exiting the van. We always sleep upstairs. I just removed the shelf and laid it at the bottom of the compartment. Our folding bucket and a few cleaning things go on top. The seals are excellent. Nothing noxious and no nasty smells have escaped in 11+ years of use. All our non-fridge food is stored in boxes in the back- reachable over the back seat. No ill effects so far!

PP covered by a Dunelm small ottoman acts as a footrest, stool (no pun intended) and completely disguises the PP. Yes, it does take up some room in the back but is a useful surface to put stuff on.

PS. At night with the ottoman on the front seat and a Dunelm folding footstep on the floor between the seats is a really easy way to get up into the top bed. No need for a ladder.

We store ours in the passenger compartment behind the front seats. A cover makes it look presentable, it’s er…. hygienic and takes up space that is unused anyway. Also makes a useful coffee table!

We keep ours in that cupboard for tidiness, as I suspect do many other California owners. I am not sure whether keeping it a foot or two away, under an absorbent fabric cover, or in the boot area is much more hygienic frankly, the hygiene is surely more to do with individual behaviour and cleaning standards I suggest.

By way of an example, for me seeing dog owners pile their dog(s) into a food producing worst of all carpeted camper (after they have doubtless done their business on a walk, and we have all seen their often visible back sides) - makes me shudder perhaps as @WelshGas shudders about my toilet storing habits. For those in the latter camp there is always:

Gadz!!! Get a bog in a bag or bog tent or bigger van.

My wife and I were much taken by Lulu’s way:

Resourcefully ‘hygienic’ in her limited circumstances.

We have always had our toilet in a purpose made box by Reimo. The box has a lid which lifts to allow access to the toilet for use. It nicely sits between the bed and seats at night and during active day/ night can be used as a foot rest or table for drinks etc. Also you are not making lots of noise trying to access during the night, I would not dream of using the cupboard and wasting space. You can even lift it out of the van for use as table during the day. I have also attached a table rail so if I place near the sliding door and attach table we can sit outside and utilise.

I don’t want to loose valuable boot space.. and like the table I want it available inside without opening the boot.. it’s a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, it’s a cali.

It doesn't store in the boot it stays in the main living area and can be used when closed as foot rest or small table. See picture, no need to disrupt your storage and is always ready for use.
