For some time now I've not been able to switch off the front foglights. Wobbling the pull switch in and out makes it flicker off, but as soon as you let go, they come back on. My local workshop says it can only been fixed by buying a new switch, costing a fair bit of money. I'm not too bothered, as I can claim they're daytime driving lights! I get a few drivers flash at me though, as they're a bit too bright for that. If anyone has had the same problem, and found a cheap and easy way to fix it, I'd give it a try.

Well I don't know what you or your garage call a "fair bit of money", but according to this Parts Diagram
http://www.partsbase.org/vw/campmob...ashboard-sun-sensor-control-unit-for-air-con/
The VW part number is vw part 6q0941531b and a brand new one costs £25 here

Also available on eBay.

Ooh - thanks for that! I'll get one, and maybe even fit it myself.
Just check the part numbers etc. Please don't just take my word. I would suggest checking with your VW Parts Dept as well. They may not be that expensive from VW.
The same switch and part number is used on other VW vehicles.

You could just take the bulbs out or pull the fuse but this might give you a bulb failure warning.

I doubt that's brand new. It's way too cheap and from a breakers yard .. And they only have one!?

Sorry, I didn't look into it too closely as I was more interested in getting the Poster some information.
Maybe you could help finding the price of a new one?

There are two types of lighting switch.
One has has 17 larger spade connectors, and the other has 10 thin connection pins on the back. Make sure you order the right one. The one you need will depend on the age of your van.

The 10 pin version costs £61.90 plus VAT from your local VW dealer. The 17 spade version is slightly more expensive. Personally I would only buy the right part from the dealer. Bargain priced electrical parts are often worn or unreliable.

To remove the switch from the dash, in the off position, push the centre in and turn to the right. This will retract two clips and the switch can be pulled out with the cable attached.
