The german tüv (mot) is due every 2 yrs, in order to pass the test the gas system
has to be checked also.

I took the van for the gas check today and got my new shiny sticker.
In a nutshell, here's what happened.

With the system closed on the hob end he removed the regulator and pressured the
system up and then waited about 20mins to see if the pressure dropped.
The yellow book says 150 but he says that he always does 300 mbar.

after that he tested the gas burners, after lighting both of them he blew them out
and you could hear them shutting down a couple of seconds later, he explained that if
a window was open and the burner blows out then the gas has to cut off.

I also got a new gas bottle tap as mine was 13yrs old and needed tightening with grips
to get a good seal.

The cost was-

Gas check- 41.65€

Sticker- 2.61€

Bottle tap- 20.23€ all with VAT.

Good piece of mind, well worth it.
Is the 'shiny sticker' a requirement to travel in Germany for foreigners or is it a local regulation? (I've removed mine!)

Only required to pass the german MOT.

That is a very different test to the UK. Here we would drop the pressure to 5mb below working pressure. Leave for 1 minute to allow for temperature stabilisation and then test for 2 minutes.

Thanks for the sum up @westfalia
Quite the same here (more important than the stickers are the documents here).
Costs here around CHF 130.- (except new pipe etc.)

Hi welshgas, where was the test, was it at a VW dealer or campervan specialist?
Thinking we are heading to Luxembourg later in the year and arrange something around Trier?

Thanks
Ken

I got it done at a big plumbers merchants, they can do them at the test centres but
i think they need a prior notice so they can get their kit out.

If your in the Trier area tap this into google and choose from there-

Wohnmobil Gasprüfung Trier.

Old thread but do UK Cali’ owners have the gas system checked regularly? Is it an MOT requirement?
