Gas hob hot plate

I bought my Cali in February last year, on the first trip I found that the gas hob is quite hot, even on minimum. It burned the Teflon off the outside edge of a 6 inch saucepan, so I've had a stainless steel hotplate made at 170 mm diameter. It has cured the problem.

I like that, but how long does take to cool down?
I expect it spreads the heat better when in use.

I would say at least 5 minutes. Yes it does spread the heat, I did think about having it bigger in diameter, but Larger pans aren't a problem.
