WALOB (What a load of Beans)

This thread is SNAFU

Reading through this thread I can’t get Benny Hills chinky character out of my head.

Pretty sure you can’t call em that anymore :mute

Right we all need to do some testing and report back.

Let’s get some parameters in place.

Beans. Industry standard Heinz (gut feeling says Owl is running Coop spec?)

Pan - small 4” dia. Thin base.

Hob - low setting obvs so press/fully anti clock?

Spoon. Wooden

Temp- Ambient 20deg +/- 5deg

Doors closed, no wind.

Stirring- are we stirring or not stirring?

Time - record time taken to reduce beans to congealed mess or hot and edible?

Discuss.

What's the spoon for if you're not stirring? And is there another pan on the second hob?

I can't participate, I cannot afford heinz baked beans and my van has a small simmer ring (when I had a beach the slidepod had a small simmer ring).

The spoon is obviously for STIRRING!

We need input from Owl if we want to recreate the original culinary catastrophe?

I’m keen to get involved in this and try to emulate Owl’s issue but as I didn’t spend 65 thousand I don’t know if I should be standing up and allowing myself to be counted. Thoughts?

I’m feeling left out! I would like to participate but I have a Beach. Is it ok if I use the hob at home?

To reflect Owl’s situation (I refuse to call it a problem) you need a frying pan on the other burner which needs stirring. Thus the beans need a very low light to heat up without stirring.
Not that I am remotely interested of course ;)

Can we have T4 v T6.1 comparison please?

Ooooh don’t get me started! The list is loooooooooong and covers a lot more than beans!!
You genuinely surprised me with the 6.1 purchase, either way you'll have at least one van you're happy with.

Surprised me I can tell you!! It was just a rainy day tyre kicking thing that got out of hand!
I know the Ocean is nice but it’s just not me. I get so much more out of the older unit.
His n hers I think is the way it’ll pan out.

Wouldn’t want to stir this up again but we need to consider the model year in addition to the model number if we want to be scientific about it. I’m not sure our tests would have any value otherwise.

Stirring with one hand or two?

Yes it is only camping as some have said .
But paying 65k plus , does not excuse a badly designed cooker not capable of simmering.

Stand up be counted I say .
Contact volkswagen ASAP
I’ve written to VW to complain about the hob settings. Once I’d printed the letter I threw it in the bin and saved myself a stamp. It’s the same outcome.
