Hi Everyone, I'm called Gillian and I'm from Hampshire. Ha, sounds like a Paddy McGuiness game show!!!
I am collecting my first Cali next Wednesday and am getting very excited :)
Having just parted with a T2 Brazilian Bay (looked beautiful but hideous to drive) I went to the Motorhome show at Newbury and fell in love with my 2014 California SE. It is white with black alloys and looks super snazzy!
So looking forward to having an electric roof and a bed that is easy to put up and down. She (or he?) is coming with parking sensors but I am thinking of having VW fit a satnav and reversing camera to improve the driving experience further.
We have had a number of different camper vans over the years ranging from a Wheelhome conversion of a Ford Galaxy (V6 engine and went like the wind) to six berth coachbuilt, Timberland conversion on a Renault Master LWB van then to the T2. Other than the T2 they all depreciated by scary amounts but I am hoping that the Cali will hold its value relatively well, they certainly seem to.
No doubt I will have lots of questions once I have had a chance to try my van out and I am hoping to come to some of the meet ups soon.

Welcome......and just a pointer to avoid VW for work like this. Plenty of specialists doing better work at much lower prices.

I'm in the North West so Preston ICE were one of the ones in my mind. I'd have thought they'd be easier to find down south. Perhaps try a specific thread, asking for recommendations near to you.

Hi Gillian from a Dorset neighbour... just got back from Switzerland and cruising back at 130 kph could never have been possible in a bay. Enjoy your ride. If you are going to Busfest in September there is always a group of us in the Malvern hills CC site so come and say hello. The show is good too. :)

Thank you Calicliff, we go down to Lymington a lot so not so far from Dorset.
Going to Scotland in a T2 is unthinkable let alone Switzerland!!! Yikes, it would take weeks to get there. Fills me with terror! Will look at Busfest

Gavinskii, yes I was in the Brazilian Bay club - still am but must cancel membership. They are an active bunch and the one highlight of our years ownership of the T2 was 30 of us all driving through W Sussex in colour order (!!!) and then doing laps of the Goodwood circuit.

I will look at Busfest and was thinking of coming to the Weymouth meet.

Hello back from Hampshire! Just put a deposit down on our 2014 Cali today. Super excited! Test drive tomorrow (hmm probably doing this all in the wrong order but didn't want to lose it!)

Hey Lanny.
We get ours next week and haven't test driven it yet! Have driven a T5 van though so hoping all will be well. We are buying it from a dealer. Fell in love with it at the Newbury Motorhomes show.
Where are you in Hampshire? I am in Basingstoke.

We're just down the road in Fleet! Ours is from Lookers in Guildford. We often borrow my Dads' autosleeper so we know what to expect. Looks like we'll have to become master packers though as Dad's has a few extra cupboards that we've become used to!

Welcome Gillian & Lanny. Noticed a few new members on here recently who've traded their T2's for a Cali. Did strongly consider a T2 when we first made the plunge, but have to confess we've been happy with our T5 choice since we made it. Enjoy your new vehicles :)

Agree about the market - go for a bunch of bananas and end up spending a fortune on things I don't need though!
Your photo looks as though it was taken at Beaulieu or Hatchet Pond??
