We now have a good selection of threads where aggressive and antagonistic posts relative to Brexit abound.

Let's keep this thread to a good humoured discussion please.

@kave: We both have Multivan and Caravelle in the danish lineup? It is two different models. Maybe the Multivan is just not imported into UK, like the California Beach is not on the model lineup in DK?

You can see the catalog for the Multivan her: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/b5a191fc#/b5a191fc/1

And for the Caravelle here: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/9021b8b8#/9021b8b8/1

I guess the California is among the cars here that are holding the value best. Besides it is very hard to find a never used one, when so, they are stil at high value.

I totally agree with your sentiment but I see my comment was removed, it certainly wasn't aggressive or antagonistic and was making the same point you make about not descending into the mire of the Brexit 'discussion'.....there are far worse on here which haven't been removed....#confused

Am looking at buying a Beach and just getting quotes in. One dealer just called to say they'd just had notice that prices were going up 3.5% at the end of November

Censorship is a confusing beast.

I can see removed threads and agreed your post was not aggressive but it was in response to a post or two that removed not your content itself. At the end of the day this is a Cali forum, we really endeavour to keep threads on topic and stop them from regularly descending into the same old arguments that have been really apparent of late. The points were sound from what I can read maybe slightly provocative language?

As for censorship, we work really hard to remove as little as possible, we have regular discussions on reports and we rarely intervene. Each of the mods and owners are different views as will every member.
At the end of the day this is a VW California forum first and foremost and if regular topics are causing dissent and arguments we will always step in to keep it friendly. We are a community, or at least that is how I felt when I joined. I have been on plenty of forums where nothing was ever removed or marked as unacceptable and they all ended up with a horrible unwelcoming atmosphere ruled by a tiny vocal minority arguing constantly amongst themselves and putting new people off. I hope we always avoid that here because this community is something special and different from the rest in my view, which is why I volunteered to mod.

If people are really passionate about such subjects, and don't get me wrong I am too, there are already established threads on such matters and probably even specialist websites where the debate would be just as rigorous and clickbait/provocative language is encouraged. Me I choose not to have discussions on here about such things anymore because it never ends well. They say never discuss politics or religion with friends and for me that extends to hobby based sites like this. Totally accept others will have different views.

Like this?
Sorry to upset you with my Arrogant view - but I think it takes one to recognise one don't you think ?

As I said, censorship is a confusing beast.

i think i read on here that there is going to be a VED price increase for vehicles of 40k or more on April 1st .... obviously affecting cali prices ... but Lewis vw is saying the cali is a "commercial vehicle" which i thought was exempt from the VED increases ?

Have a look at the vw.uk site, it is quite clear. Multivan is called Caravelle and Caravelle is called Transporter Shuttle.

Just to keep you all updated. There will be a price increase on the 1st December. All Volkswagen Commercial (yes that includes California) models will be subject to a 3% price increase. All options on models will be subject to an average of a 3.5% price increase too. For example, the current California Ocean 2.0L 204ps DSG total on the road price is £53,005. That will increase to £54,571 on the 1st December. Please bear this in mind when you are dealing with your respective dealers over this next month. As they say, get them while they're cheap!!
So what will happen with the VED changes due on 1st April 2017. This does not apply to Commercial Vehicles but will impact significantly on the California.
Will VW change it's classification with DVLA from M1 to N1 with Body type Motor Caravan/Home thus avoiding this increase?

How will that impact on the grey area of speed limits?

It's down to the classification in your V5 not the fact that VW Commercial sell them.

According to that other site about T4/T5's and other sources N1 + Body Type Motor Caravan/Home allows Car speed limits in the UK if Vehicle Max weight less than 3.5 tons.

No different to other Motor Home manufacturers of Motor Homes weighing less than 3.5 tons.

No, it's lower than that, some fall in and some out.

Agree, we were thinking of changing also - with all the issues surrounding this vehicle like, roof corrosion, engine problems etc... And VW's resitscent stance to repairs; and now the excessively elevated cost It's not a step I will be taking. I paid £41.5k back in 2011. My vehicle now would cost close to £50k = almost 25% increase as compared to 5 yrs ago. I am lucky enough to be able to afford to buy a new vehicle now, but choose not to for the reasons above...

We paid £34k for ours in 2012. We had to fit towbar, webasto diesel heater & cruise control as the vehicle was ex demo with only 50 miles on the clock. It's added around £1800 to the initial purchase price. But it now has everything we require. I went onto the Volkswagen site to spec a replacement van with same spec with the addition of 3 zone climate instead of AC. Cost, over £50k...!!!

We are now considering buying a new estate car in the new year as our main vehicle instead of the Cali. Just using the Cali for camping and things. Test drove the new A4 3.0 V6, well specced it's a lot cheaper than replacing the Beach and a lot nicer and refined to drive.

Quite confusing then … but the UK Caravelle catalog seems to me a mix og the Danish Caravelle and Multivan catalog. The frontpages on both Caravelle catalogs are the same.In DK you can also get the Transporter Shuttle.

So would the California Ocean fall in or out if it classed as N1.
Land Rover did the same with the Defender Station Wagon. My 2010 model was M1, Road Tax £450 + and 2011 was changed to N1 Road Tax £250+

unladen weight not above 2040kg so a van can just get away with it, anything fitted out will struggle.

I live is Spain and was hoping to buy a Cali' in the spring of 2017. The massive fall in the exchange rate has all but scuppered that idea. The overall cost has now risen by about £15,000 and I also have to contend with the devaluation of the pound on my everyday expenses as my money is sourced from the UK. Second hand values out here are outrageous with ridiculous prices being asked for older vehicles with starship mileage. I am now actively considering an alternative but cheaper option based upon a new transporter van + a high quality 'ocean style' conversion. I have sourced a company near Barcelona that matches the factory original for quality. The overall cost gives almost ocean spec' but at the price of a Beach.

Rumours are the next price increase could be as much as 7% so anyone thinking of buying a Cali should do so ASAP, this coupled with the new tax next year an average Cali could end up costing £4,000+ more that it is now.
Bought mine last week essential because of exchange rate. love the van.

After using various Forums relating to cars and not joining due to responses by many that seem more intent on venting some abusive tendencies I've found this Forum a gem as to sensible discussions and information gleaning. Keep up the difficult balancing act.

We only use our Cali for camping and days out and as such I can see it lasting as long as we want it too - now 7.5 years old with only 20000 on the clock, it still feels like new to drive.
With the way new prices are I couldn't see us ever getting a new one they're ridiculous. We paid £35k for ours in 2009 for a top of the range SE with pretty much every option except sat nav which I had installed later.
I know that they can be specced up a lot more these days but £55k for a new one?? No thanks!

I paid £52000 for my 180BHP in 2010, which was one of the first T5.1 on the road in U.K. Have most available extras and from memory I got 8% discount.

And I now have the new engine with 5000 miles on the clock. Cali has done 60000 miles.

Everything works 100% and it's in great order.

Add to that the fact I went across 23 countries in 15 months in it, it's part of my life fabric, hence a keeper.

When you look at car prices in general the california isn't out of step, for instance a top spec Land Rover Discovery Sport (actually a rebadged Freelander replacement) will be over £60,000.

We love the fact we have visited so many places and countries in ours. We have pictures on our wall at home with the Cali at various places. It become part of the family way more than any other vehicle could be.
I want to hang onto ours to build onto those memory's and picture albums
