Just a thought, if any of you go away for up to 80 days in your van ? can anyone recommend an insurance company to cover your house while away ?As most house insurance is 30 days and some you can extend to 60 days .

Rather than start a new thread thought I would revive this one. We are planning a 70 day trip and so far have been refused by one home insurer and had a quote of 300% increase from current insurer (clearly they don't want to cover the risk)

We are still looking so I will post if we have any luck but someone on this forum must have the answer. To be specific this is this is the " leaving the house unoccupied for >60 days in one period"

That was my original thread.we went away for 80 days last year .it cost us a lot of money for health and House insurance. So this year we have limited our journey to 55 days which falls within the limits of our health and home insurance.we had no answers last time .It makes me wonder if people just don't bother to tell their insurance?

OK thanks for update I'll update this post if I get a solution or we may consider keeping to the 60 days

Our home insurer is also 60 days, which is fine for us.
For those needing more than 60 days, I think It’s worth asking an insurer “what if a relative/ friend stays a night or two every month while we are away?”. You might find that your home is then not continually unoccupied for the whole period. Just a thought.

That didn't work for our insurance,

We did ask that question, our son would stay 1 night every week but the answer was still no !

Our insurer has allegedly said the same to a friend. Add hoc stays aren't acceptable.

Our policy document (same company) defines Unoccupied in great detail and essentially the clock is reset after a two night stay so long as normal activities are carried out. Shower, cooking, heating etc.

So we have our daughter stay over every month for two nights.

This allows up to 180 days - my daughter used this policy to cover a 90 day around the world trip (with just 7 days in a campervan on New Zealand).

Would be worth a look?

Do the restrictions relate to contents insurance and/or buildings insurance?
