How do you sweep leaves etc off your wind-out awning?

I’ve never found a satisfactory way to sweep the leaves off the wind out awning. My arms aren’t long enough to reach the middle with a hand brush. It seems too much of a luxury to take a full size broom for this simple job. I guess I really need something telescopic to then attach to a hand broom.
What do you do?

I use a walking stick (for walking, unsurprisingly) - it comes in handy for lots of other little jobs too.
