Hubbys Handmade side/snack drink bar for the beach

I am currently working on something similar at the moment as a project to "justify" me getting a 3D printer ;)

Will be giving the prototype a test run this weekend at the meetup but already found an issue with flex so will not be putting much on it.

Pic of the bracket. Printed 2 and using a bit of scrap wood so can work out the details.

Anyone point me to the thread that had a similar hack for the SE/Ocean? It was a little extra platform that slotted in the end of the kitchen and dropped over the lock pin on the front door (from memory).

There is also the 'ikea chopping board on top of the cutlery tray' trick.

We copied the idea for cutlery tray, works a treat. Much better than getting the table out all the time. more space with us & dogs.

We made this for our 2 seater Beach it stays up all the time great for brewing tea or drinking wine. We are able to make the downstairs bed with it in situ so hubby can make morning tea while I stay in bed.

You have what I want! I've been looking for something to enable me to make the morning cuppa without opening the door or putting the bed away, this is brilliant. I'm going to order the rail clips tomorrow. If you have any more pics or advice on how you fixed it together then it would be much appreciated :0)

Hi
How did your brackets work out, do they just screw to the underside of the table top?

Hi SE Vanman
I will send you some more pics and the dimensions of ours shortly, it is the best thing we have sorted in the bus and It stays in permanently kettle on as soon as we arrive, beer and wine in the evening and still plenty of room to move around.
Do you have the 2 seater Beach with box because we positioned the brackets so you can slide the table forward then have access to the box without removing the table and its contents. If you don’t need this you can position them wherever.

I've decided I need this too! Will be keeping an eye on this thread

I have been thinking about something similar - Maxxcamp have made something close to it, but it is designed for their rail profile which is different to the Beach rail profile. I have purchased one from Maxxcamp, and in the process of getting a local metal basher to make one that will fit the Beach, and mount the gas stove.

The idea would be for it to be reversible - allowing you to clip it on in either the horizontal mode for operation and vertical mode for storage.

Having seen this thread, if the unit was slightly wider might be a bit more useful - cups etc. Would there be enough demand to produce a limited run ??

Hi again the table top is 400mm by 450mm, brackets are on the short edge. I have included some pictures showing position of brackets and leg, if you do not want the access into the box both can be positioned the same distance from the edge. We used a piece of wood with recesses chiselled out to accommodate and secure the bracket. The leg is telescopic and folding so table can be stored behind the seat or elsewhere. One picture shows how far it sticks out in relation to the front seat so you could have it longer if you wanted. Thing to be mindful of, make sure you can slide the table forward enough so the leg positioned does not interfere with the making up of the bed.
Enjoy your first tea in bed without stepping outside.

Thank you BeachyBird, this is exactly what I had in mind, I'm surprised its not already available off the shelf. I've ordered a tabletop, telescopic leg and I picked the clips up from my dealer yesterday....£12 per pair now, but essential. Yes I have the two seat Beach too, and would like to keep access to the box while the table is up, so your pics and advice are invaluable - thank you again for taking the time to do them and show the detail, I'll post some pics once I've got mine together. :0)

Hello Cali Fate - I love this idea, I hadn't seen it before. If it could be made to fit the VW Rail then I'm sure they would be very popular. Slightly bigger to hold a couple of mugs would be a bonus. I'm currently going down the table and leg route for stability as I'm paranoid with 2 kids and a dog on the way, the thought of a burner an boiling water hanging on the side will make me nervous. Please update if you get anywhere with this as I'm sure there will be a lot of interest.

You are welcome and I am sure you will not be disappointed, this is possibly the BEST and most useful addition to our beach. I can not imagine how we used to cope before, even just sitting in the evening with wine and nibbles.
Look forward to seeing you pics.

Hi, Can I ask where you ordered the Table Top & Telescopic Leg from not sure if they are VW parts - have reread thread and still cannot work that out :)

I like the idea or a shorter table. I have searched for the part V7E7 898 209 online and failed, can you remember where you brought it. Thanks

This is the code for the replacement table brackets you get them from your VW dealer normally they need ordering, they come as 1 pack which includes 2 brackets approx £12 now.

Hi Gazellio they are NOT VW parts the telescopic leg I used is a Reimo you can pick them up from most accessory dealers and on eBay approx £22. And table top was made by a converter who does his own cabinet making. Not sure where SE VanMan has sourced his from.

I am seeing a 've conversion company about making them tomorrow...
Hi I went to clearcut conversions online, they have a choice of table sizes and finishes, I went for 400mm square. I asked for a telescopic Reimeo leg and it came fitted to the top along with two clamps which would hang the table on a ‘conversion style’ bar. My plan is to modify the supplied clamps to hold the VW parts... off to the shed!

Looks like you could use the existing four screw holes and a flat metal plate to clamp the new 've parts on...

Hi SE VanMan
Table looks good, that was a good find. We looked at all sorts of fixings for the brackets in the end we went for the wood option because it enabled us to clamp them tightly to the table to stop any movement. With the 400mm if you want to be able to slide the table into any position along the rail check the leg is far enough out to miss the box. Sorry if I am stating the obvious but these are things we came across while trying to decide where to fit brackets and leg to ensure maximum flexibility.

My husband and I have made a side table for our 2016 beach.
It saved us getting the big table out, and is handy for making a brew, putting your drink on or a lap top on to watch dvds.
It's made from aluminium with rounded corners and 2 cup holders for our ecoffee cups.
It fits perfectly in the table slot holder and does not slide about.
Easy to store in the back pocket of the front seats.
Not ideal for sitting on but it's fairly robust and my drink doesn't slide around on it very much.
Ideal for the kids to play a small board game in to.
I'm really pleased with the outcome.
I also make the VW cushion covers if you go to handmade in Haworth on face book.
What do you guys think to it?

looks good. but would look even better if anodised. This could be done by your local metal finishers

Finished the table today, thank you BeachyBird for your tips on offsetting the brackets, we now have a fully functioning tea table for the morning, with access to the storage box still possible. Very pleased with myself!
