ID. Buzz. We've done it!

Last week, for the second time in three weeks, I found myself laying in bed in Watford General Hospital, suffering from Sepsis. A situation, which tends to focus ones mind on the fragility of life.
On the third day of my stay in hospital, the order book, for those who had placed pre-orders, which I had, went live.
Now I know an ID.Buzz is not a campervan, but at 77, I haven't got time to wait for VW to finally produce a fully working electric campervan, which they have been promising for so long. But I've been swept up in the whole hype of the ID.Buzz, and really fancy, before I "pop my clogs", of experiencing an EV. So laying on my bed we embarked on the business of grappling with the VW Configurator, and ordering our Buzz. An experience that turned out to be almost as painful as suffering from Sepsis, but we got there in the end, and have ordered a ID. Buzz 1st Edition, in two-tone Candy White/Lime Yellow. On which I will place the reg number JA22 BUZZ.
God I'm going to be a poser, but what fun it is spending the kids inheritance. Your a long time gone as the saying goes.

I'm home and taking the tablets as the expression goes. Sure will be up the Green Dragon in it as soon as it arrives. You can't beat a GD pizza. Perhaps the reg P1ZZA would have been better.

Get well soon, I had Sepsis in 2016 at 38 years old, fully fit and healthy. It totally kicked the life out of me…!!! I spent two weeks in hospital and 3 months getting over it.

I seem to get over my type of Sepsis quickly, now having had it four times in the last 7 years. But boy, when it attacks does it come quickly.
But you do get a ride in the ambulance with a blue flashing light on, (when it finally arrives two hours later!) Then being wheeled in straight past those who have been waiting for12 hours in A&E. The signs as you enter hospital, saying be sepsis aware, 140,000 people die of sepsis every year, are little bit off- putting.
Watford General Hospital has been in special measures recently. I think they call it that?
l must say my experience was nothing short of amazing. I'm out in the front garden clapping for the NHS. It's amazing what that's £350 million, that we don't pay to the EU, has now done to upgrade our hospitals!!!

Thank you all for your good wishes Cali family, and yes, I'm grateful for the vaccinations I've received courtesy of the saved £ 350 million, having remained Covid free, despite being immunosuppressant.
It's been a long time since the 2013 roof corrosion survey, so l thought I'd do a survey on what colour VW. Buzz's are being ordered in.
Laine at SMG Tonbridge was super helpful as usual in providing the info. They have so far placed 34 orders in the first week for those who have paid £2000 deposits for a pre-ordered place. The most orders for any UK VW Van Dealer, well done SMG.
Most people are choosing two-tones unsurprisingly, probably helped by the fact it's a £1800 option as opposed to £3000+ on a Cali.

Of the 4 two-tone options the breakdown is:-
Lime Yellow/Candy White 11
Energetic Orange/Candy White 8
Starlight Blue/Candy White 7
Bay leaf Green/Candy White 5

Of the 7 monotone options, the only ones are:-
Candy White 2
Deep Black 1

This shows l follow 'the herd', having ordered the yellow Buzz option, and our Calis are always Indium Grey, the herd leader by a mile.

I’ve also ordered two tone yellow, with the black/yellow interior. Really like the white/yellow interior advertised, but can’t see it looking any good, a couple of years down the line.

Two tone green would be my next choice.

I’m also hoping it won’t lose to much and going forward possibly upgrade to the ID Cali-E when it arrives. Not sure what we can expect from the future electric Cali. But an electric Beach Cali could be interesting…

The dealer was no help in guiding me on the options, so I've just made a guess at what to add. Any input from anyone else would be greatfully received.

If you want to have a faster charger fitted at home, you will need to have a spare slot on your household fuseboard as fast charger needs a dedicated 32amp fused supply. It’s alot quicker than charging from a 10amp 3 pin household plug. Charging at home is cheapest option.

I don't known anything about EV's other than I'm likely to suffer from "Range Anxiety" as well as Sepsis and GCA.
I do know we've got a whole load of wires and two fuse boxes in the garage so should be OK for a fuzed output.

I was hoping to trade on to a fully electric ID. Buzz. Even brought the number plate
BU22 BED. I now think the next camper , 'T8' ? will be based on the electric Ford platform to be built in Turkey.

Most cars aren’t supplied with jacks as there isn’t a spare wheel. Gunk and a compressor is all you get as standard. Interestingly the Buzz has different size tyres front to back. I haven’t, as yet, found a tyre with a 108 load rating from any supplier other than VW.

I just like the idea, be it old fashioned, that I can have the option to have the car jacked up if required, using the vehicle jack, rather than a trolley jack placed underneath the battery pack by some clumsy mechanic.
I guess as it isn't a standard fitment, just an option, there will be no dedicated storage space so it'll end up just floating around in the enormous boot space.

10A is worth having as allows charging from any household 3 pin plug, So allows you to charge at home if you dont have a faster 32A fitted. Can also be used say at a campsite EHU or if you stay overnight with friends / family.

We have now covered 9,000 miles in our EV. Have only charged outside of home 8 times. Fast 32A charger was fitted at home only after approx 4,000miles. Before this we just use the 10a charging lead off 3 pin plug in our garage.

Installation of our house 32A was delayed tried to use the government scheme which was a big mistake, the electricians that they use for the scheme wanted so much info, photos of fuseboxes / earth bonding etc and were slow in coming back if they replied at all. We got one lined up and then he refused to do the job as he would need to use a ladder to run a thicker cable from house fusebox to exisiting garage fusebox (as our house fusebox is on 1st floor landing) but Heath & Safety meant he couldn't use a ladder!...was very comical...I got the impression that these 'specialist' firms are only interested in the job if its 'plug&play with no further work required...so in the end we used a local electrician who was (recommended by our builder) who fitted with no issues.

£300 but we were also having a some other work done (garden room fusebox/wiring), so was cheaper than a one off install as he was on site anyway.

We supplied the charger ourselves. Lots of choice - we went for a Tesla one as we have never had an issue with the car, hence impressed with their kit...but would guess that not much can wrong with a charger anyway.
